    There's a no hitter going on between Baltimore and the NYY. Slightly more interesting than watching this auction. Might pick up near the end. 20 minutes left I believe.

    I don't know about the entire lineup. But there are a lot of starters on the bench. Late September baseball gets that way.

    In the guess-the-price thread from a couple weeks, ago, 2/3 of those who answered the poll guessed higher than $13,500. 37 guessed under $15K and 75 guessed over.

    But 42 people thought it would sell for over $30K!

    I think the price reflects a belief that this won't be the only MS70 business strike ever slabbed.

    New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    12% juice? Holy crap! Boy, do we long for the simpler days.
    In any case, the bidders back out the 12%. So it appears it may have sold for just over the reserve. $15,120.

    How do we know the winning bidder is a happy camper? I was the winning bidder many times at TT once upon a time, and can state that once I got the coins, I was often not thrilled.

    I emphatically agree.

    Once the Rubicon has been crossed, it's infinitely easier to do it the next time...and the next....

    I don't know, if course, but it just defies belief that this particular coin is so vastly superior to any other Lincolns that have come first off the dies in lo these many years....

    Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...

    I had no problem with the coin whatsover as did nearly every dealer who examined the coin according to Ian, President of Teletrade. Cameron K. had his booth right next to Teletrade and I know he loved the coin as well (I believe he told me he had never seen anything like it) as we spoke when I was examining it there at the show. There was one dealer (and only one) who told me privately he did not like the coin. I value the opinion of this dealer and I was surprised he felt that way. I mention it to state all I know concerning the quality of the piece, even the single negative viewpoint I was aware of. Any spotting is on the holder I believe.

    There's a good chance there will be more MS-70's made but don't bet any future
    ones have to be 2003-P's.
