I don't know for sure. If someone that does know is here I don't believe they said it did or didn't. I thought Stewart said to ask someone what the reserve was so I ASS U ME D ( ) there was.
From what I know of CERTAIN Teletrade sale there is ALWAYS a reserve.
Wow! I just saw a pic and that 2003 penny is just amazing, really breathtaking, perhaps even more then the Wilkerson gold pattern coins or the very rare ultra high relief Saints!!
I believe a book should be written about this coin and its rich history and perhaps all the famous pedigrees tracing it all the way back to the mint.
I wonder how this coin will be stored. Is there anyway to protect it from the environment( vacuum sealed?), granted its in a slab but it still can turn in the holder. That would be my biggest concern if I owned this coin if it goes for moon money.
My only question is which of the 100 Greatest Coins (form the book of the same name) would the modern ultramorons advocate this coin displace?
(PS -- I am not against moderns or their collectors. There are obviously going to be some classics arising from among those coins. Condition rarities too. But this MS70 cent will not last as such.)
Maybe they were experimenting with Satin Finish coins back in 2003 and a few escaped into mint sets. The Texas Coin and Currency Set supposedly has Satin Finish 2004 Texas Quarters in them, but the verdict is still out on that one. It could be conceivable they started experimenting with these Satin Finish Dies back in 2003. Even Teletrade's description says it has Satin qualities
Given all the hype on this one and all the potential MS70s out there that have never been graded I would guess the PCGS MS70 population of modern cents is going to go way up.
Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my hard drive?

To ampllify on Russ' comment- An intercept box with adequte silica gel, when stored at room temperature should take care of that, I think. Anyone have experience to the contrary?
I didnt catch that 'spotting' that you mentioned, Connecticoin, until I looked at it in this post...I DID catch what looks like that spotting above 'ONE CENT' on the reverse. Though, the chatter to the left of the Memorial bothers me also...this is a great coin, but is this really a 70? It's fresh, could the holder be that messed up already? One would think, if the holder IS messed up already, that this should have been treated with kid gloves....
You can buy a bank wrapped 2003 roll of Unc cents on (Ebay Buy-it-now) for about $5 or $6. This is nuts!

I can't imagine why it wouldn't sell because whatever it sells for is almost like free money IMO. I'm guessing the aquisition cost for that coin was face value or close to it.
Teletrade won't accept my bid of $3.14. Guess I won't get it. Oh well, I'll go buy an MS70 ASE, which had 100x the face value.

Was there any opportunity for bidders to view this lot in person? If not the restocking fee could be an expensive price to pay for a post-purchase viewing. Or do the guys bidding on this not really caer what it looks like in hand, so long as the label says MS70?

Looks like another $69$ to me.
<< <i>If the seller is SO confident of it's ENORMOUS VALUE, why even have a reserve? >>
Do we actually know it has a reserve, or is that just speculation?

<< <i>Didn't you read the label? >>
The label is special, yes. Is this coin that special when compared to others where the label says '69', though? That's the $64,000 question.
From what I know of CERTAIN Teletrade sale there is ALWAYS a reserve.
<< <i>That's the $64,000 question. >>
Personally, I think it's more like a $35,000 question.

Intercept Shield box would probably be the best option.
<< <i>From the pictures it looks like a satin finish mint set issue. >>
It does, but since the mint wasn't producing the satin finish in 2003, there's no worries that it's a mislabeled coin.

ya think?
I feel honored and privileged to even see a scan of this wondrous and exciting coin.
I cannot think of a better way to spend $12,000 (or $40,000 or whatever) on a coin.
There is no second place coin, IMHO.
In fact, after seeing the scan of this coin, I cannot bear to gaze on any other coin.
