Newbie question(s)

SkyManSkyMan Posts: 9,592 ✭✭✭✭✭
Hi Folks!

I've got your typical dumbass newbie question or two. First, when I signed up it appeared that I needed to use an avatar, and I was given a list of icons, all of which were/are someone elses icon. So, I've got someone elses icon up. What is the deal for deleting that icon from my avatar spot and importing and installing my own avatar?

Second, someone wanted to send me a personal message, and said I needed to turn on my pm ability. What is the deal with that?

Thank you for your help.

For private messages: on the upper right hand of the page click on "profile". Scroll down and near the bottom of the page you will see an option to "allow private messages" - use the "on" option. Once enabled, if/when you receive private messages you can find them in the upper left corner where you see this: image

You have to wait until the 15th of the month to upload your personal avatar. Everybody has to use another's avatar when we first join. image

I'm disappointed. Those weren't dumbass questions. If you want to see real dumbass questions, do a search on the user name "majorbigtime".

Thank you, Ken. I also liked the story in your first post. My grandfather didn't get me started on coins, but he did get me started on fishing, for which I'll always be thankful.

    Have a good one!

That actually made me laugh out loud.

    Welcome to the boards Skyman.
My humble '63 mint registry set, not much, but it's mine!

Actually I thought Russ's comment was quite amusing too, and that his avatar is just an absolute KILLER of a '65 SMS. I definitely love deep cameo stuff and '65 is a b__ch of a year to get something good out of (hmm, ran into my first censored remark here for using the female dog name). Here's the link to my Frankie set of that general era. Unfortunately it only has one image, the '58. I need to get the other stuff imaged. However, if you've got Tomaska's first book (1991) of "Cameo and Brilliant Proof Coinage of the 1950 to 1970 Era", two of my Frankies are plate coins... the 1950 is plate # 3 and the 1959 is plate # 46.

Thank you again everybody for the warm welcome and the help!
