Georgia man charged with $180,000 Ebay fraud involving 1 oz. American eagle coins

A Catoosa County man accused of defrauding more than $180,000 from Ebay users appeared in US District Court to face charges today.

Kary Dean Head, of Fort Oglethorpe, entered a plea of not guilty to nine counts of fraud in front of United States District Judge Walter E. Johnson. Head who was led into the courtroom in handcuffs was later released on a $10,000 own recognizance bond.

Head is accused of devising and executing a scheme offering 1oz American Silver Eagle coins on the internet auction site, and never supplying the winning bidders with the items, according to court documents.

Neither Head nor his attorney L. Vincent Anderson made comment as they left the courtroom.

that's a lot of ASEs! Any clue as to his former user name? I assume he didn't pay his ebay bills either, thus he has been naru'd...had he paid the bills and just scammed bidders, he'd be a power seller, right?

Michigan, thank you for the story, but it missed answering 1 question - - Has this guy been NARU'ed from eBay, or is he still there? Thanks.

How could he stay current on ebaY if he was scamming that much? I mean, I know ebaY doesn't ever NARU the right people at the right time, but $180,000 worth? They came after me and shut down my auctions because I use "Zippo-like" in the text of one lighter auction.

I don't get how he could have gone so long. Sounds like the people who were scammed have a case against ebaY, not the scammer.

There are probably various ways to scam people on Ebay for a long period of time with changing user
names, providing fake addresses etc., keeping one step ahead of ebay and angry bidders.

$180,000? Hey how long does it take to sell 300 gold US eagles? Get yourself a half dozen or so eBay IDs have each of them scatter 50 sales over a two week period with each of them only covering a two or three days with auction. By the time the neg start rolling in you will have completed most of the auctions and the negs for the IDs that ended during the first few days of the two week period won't affect the IDs selling later in the week. By the time all of the negs are in the total time is only about a month and you have the money. It's simple.

this is not much money at all compared to the ebay seller garageshelf. there are over 100 people that purchased 1oz gold eagles in bunches from this woman. she stole approx $1 million dollars from all the sellers combined on ebay, not providing the merchandise but cashing checks for bullion. she left the country. ebay does not mean what they say about seller's protection. you have no protection when purchasing bullion on ebay. there is a criminal case against this woman, but she left the country. it is up to the tumwater washington police dept and the county attny there to charge her. i may never get any money back.

now that is some big time bucks

they still have not pressed charges against this woman.
