It's weird in that the seller had years of good feedback and then poof, gone.

As far as weird, weirder things have happened. Look at ManofCoins. All on the up and up, good forum reputation, great regiistry sets and then poof.........Dr. Jekyll!
The name is LEE!
Now your making me have second thoughts. I hope that nothing real bad happened to the seller; I've got enough damage done to my karma already.
For future reference... If Paypal had not been able to "recover" the funds, then would I have been "out" the money? I always thought it was some sort of insurance type thing or something?
<< <i>The fact that PayPal was able to recover the funds indicates that the seller is not a scammer. If he were, he would have drained his accounts and you would have received nothing. I think perhaps something has happened to him.
Russ, NCNE >>
That is what I was thinking as well.
<< <i>Russ,

There's no reason for you to have second thoughts. You did exactly what you needed to do to protect yourself. The specific reasons for his non-performance is not an issue.

Yes.

Wouldn't this change cause the new Ebay ID not to match with the previously setup Paypal account?
<< <i>Wouldn't this change cause the new Ebay ID not to match with the previously setup Paypal account? >>
The PayPal account is not eBay ID specific. It's eMail address driven.

Not true, just like the evening news, there are very few horror stories. Those bad ones are the only ones brought to light.
Most of us have had nothing but good experience with paypal, but who wants a post about, Hey I had another good paypal transaction. LOL

Great point!
I know crazy, insane stuff goes on with Paypal sometimes, and many people get screwed. Fortunately, that hasn't happened to us YET (except for the rates they charge), and we've probably had a few thousand Paypal transactions.
You were lucky this time.
And one other thing, be sure to leave negative feedback even if the guy is NARU.

Their rates are about the same as regular credit card company. So pick them or call another company and pay their rates.
I used to run an online store for salt water coral and clams, and I opened up an acct with a merchant company allowing my customers to enter their cc info securly, and giving them the sense of trust sometimes unfairly associated with paypal.
Paypal is not the problem, it is some of the scum that uses them.

You can't leave feedback for a NARU'd user.
Russ, NCNE
Pay for everything with a credit card - even thru Paypal - and you can get your money back from the CC company..................
Paypal might close your account - but hey, at least you got your money back
<< <i>Their rates are about the same as regular credit card company. >>
I'm afraid that's not true, at least not in regards to the credit card processing company that we use (unless you consider the difference between 1.9% and 2.5% 'about the same'). Perhaps other merchants are paying rates similar to those that Paypal charges, but then they simply didn't do their homework or due diligence in negotiating competitive rates.
what one doesn't take, the other will.
However, I leave a little in there drawing 5.03% interest
If there were a verdict, I'd say MONOPOLY !
