It is sad really...

that so many great numismatists are silenced or left for fear of getting bammed...

Here's a coin that always cheers me up...until the boards simmer down or the "powers that be" take their finger off the trigger...I will become a lurker.

Thanks for all the great info over the years

Bad choice of words Mr. E...

    BECOME a lurker
  • So, call me stupid... but why is anyone afraid of getting bammed? If the posts are numismatic related, and a civil tongue is kept... why would someone get bammed?
Has someone been kicked off without reason lately?

Certain threads have been pulled with no reason simply becuase certain people post them

I don't believe that to be correct. It is almost certainly the subject matter and/or the tone, as opposed to the person doing the posting.
  • I saw one thread pulled (I can't remember the specifics) last week, and it certainly deserved to be pulled.
It had a lot of 'open forum' type back and forth, with no numismatic value.
Those are going to be pulled. That's the rulz... like them or not.
I think PCGS (Carolj) has been really reasonable about the content here. Let's all face it, when the OF closed, many topics went semi-sideways here. They were not pulled, and I don't think people were bammed. And things are slowly coming back to normal and finding a new equilibrium.

I'm not sure I agree with that, but even if it's true, that's a far cry from banishment.

Besides, if I was pretty sure my posts were being selectively pulled, I'm pretty sure banishment would be the best thing they could do for me.

[Edit to add: I also think the mods are keeping a short leash right now to prevent this forum from becoming another OF.]

None have posted here yet. So, I guess some have been silenced.

"Great" numismatists are people like TomB, Coinguy1, TDN, CCU, Julian, Printz, Sunnywood, Lustig, etc. They are all posting regularly. So, I ask again, which "great" numismatists have been silenced or left for fear of banning?

Read the sentence above yours. Reading comprehension is such an important thing.

My reading comprehension is excellent. I'm just waiting for proof of the assertion that some "great" numismatists have been silenced or left for fear of banning. Of course, everybody reading this thread knows that it's just thinly disguised whining about the elimination of the open forum, and that there are no "great" numismatists who aren't posting because they are in fear.

Maybe they're not posting as much as they would be.

  • Some members of the Open Forum have not posted on the Coin Forum since the Open Forum was shut down. But to call them “Great” Numismatists is a bit of a stretch ksteelheader. The Open Forum was a great place to visit, when ever I needed a laugh I knew I could always read one of IWOG’s political post, it was a good place to vent and I will miss it (life goes on). Any collector of coins that don’t want to post on the Coin Forum, that is their choice. The Forum monitors have been more then fair with some of the post here since the closing, and who has been banned without cause? image

Dan all is not lost. But your classes are starting and the coin game can take a rest.
And with change we all grow.

I don't believe the whining to be thinly disguised.

What do you think, Mr. Bigglesworth?
