Derek - you want smoe, PM me. I can get you bags image

Only problem is, they weigh about 18 grams.

Had me fooled for the 1.2 seconds I looked at it the first time. image

Luckily I did recommend passing on the coin...Mike

The trouble is he'll sell them as genuine.

I thought it was fake but didn't feel qualified to say so for sure. I believe Mark is right about it.

I have a better 1848 FAKE in my dansco 7070 that a friend bought in Hong Kong and thought was real (and thought he was getting a rip at ~$5.....he doesn't know anything about coins but thought it was old so it was worth something). That and a 1906 SAE dollar image

Mark, i agree with others....Derek (a) doesn't know what he talks about (b) will just try to sell it to some unwitting person.
He talks a lot and has grown to having a website, doing tables, walking the bourse floors to sell/buy, and doing ebay. But, he doesn't give any info that can be substantiated.
    Not worth your time.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    Four possibilities:

    1) He knows it's a fake and wants to resell it as genuine.

    2) He knows it's a fake and collects them. (Yeah, sure.)

    3) He doesn't know it's fake.

    4) He's a parody of the stereotypical bad dealer and laughing his head off.

So some of you are speculating that it was artifically formed? Unless you were there to witness its creation you can't be 100% sure. Maybe they were having a production problems at the mint in 1846. Who knows?

Oh, and if it really is AF, then it doesn't matter so long as it is acceptable to the market.image

Hey coin guy 1 / roadrunner - Its amazing you would go out of your way to devote a thread to me but this is typical of what I am finding from a lot of the bottom feeder mollusks like you that inhabit this particular numismatic realm. But quite frankly, as long as I am making money in the coin biz, I could really care less what your type thinks - at a good show your type doesn't even put out enough output to register in the cosmic background radiation. Your nothing but un-noticed roadkill in my headlights as I roar down the rare coin highway.

I simply commented on its appearance in that thread. Coinguy if you weren't such a sleaze you would not have left this comment in that thread - hey guy maybe you should go jump off the Trump Tower. As far as the coin being counterfeit - prove it to me by sending it in to be graded dumb bunny.

If our Chinese friends (I understand Bayer invested $1.9 Billion for a Chemical complex there recently) can easily counterfeit expensive type, they can most assuredly do it with the inexpensive type many dealers sell raw like seated and barber material < $50. There are many dealers who would love to get a few of these for their raw coin customers LOL vs that 1 ounce gold slug that copies the Buffalo Nickel design.

I have dealing in coins my whole life and still cant figure how you guys can grade a coin much less determine its authenticity from a picture, much less the crappy pictures that comes with most coins. I can barely Identify anything important to determine its grade or authenticity other than the rim problems, you folks must got the Superman eyes!

    1. bottom fish.
    2. a person who functions or seeks to gain at the lowest level of an activity: bottom feeders who buy undervalued stocks; social bottom feeders hanging out in seedy bars; Derek2001.

So far, everything I have seen in the way of posts by derek2100 makes me think he's a complete moron, therefore if he likes it, I won't even bother to look, I'll just walk away - rapidly.

The picture is very small and I'd hate to have to live on the ability to judge coins from images that small.
Many of the comments about that coin tend to point out weaknesses that it has, and I agree with many of them.

Seated dollars are truely an area of concern on Internet buying sites.

I would put this coin in my case with my other raw collector coins and price it at $300. The coin looks nice and problem free just from the photo CH VF - could sell well at a small show.

I'm gushing at the seams knowing that Dealer Derek would go so far out of his way to let us in on his innermost thoughts, vacuous as they may be.

The Coin Show at the widow's and orphan's home is Sunday. I know you will be supporting with your offers for gold under melt and 2/3 of CDN bid for worthwhile coins. Since you have 200 Saints
in your "collection," would you clue us in to what you collect? I'm sure fellow Saint collectors Saintguru and JPKinla would love to hear you inputs on collecting Saints. And either of those gents would be a world of help in giving you some guidance in grading them.

Remember, when we first met Derek, we learned from him that you can only sell the coin for the grade on the holder. Now we learn, it's only fake if it is sitting in a bodybag. image My guess is that Derek would have no hesitation to rip it out of the bodybag and sell it to little Bobby Booberman for the $300 Bobby made mowing lawns for a summer.
