POLL: Keep or Cancel your orders for the 2006-W Silver ASE Set?

Will you KEEP or CANCEL your orders for the 2006-W ASE set, in light of the US Mint's announcement that they will offer 2006-W Unc's directly to the public for $19.95 as part of their Holiday Catalog?

Will they just be offering the silver as singles, or also the gold?

I wonder if that'll hurt the "big" set that's been bringing a tidy profit over the mint issue $2600 price?

I only got four, but I'm keeping them. Won't get rich, but they should appreciate enough to make it worthwhile. I think people like that "set" thang.

And you got the whole submission gamble going on...who knows?

You think so on the 2pc, SM?

There's the whole "sold out" psychological thing, ya know?

It will sell out eventually. Should be worth a grand in a few months on that alone, right?

Of course, if the powers that be would let gold do it's thing, that might be melt. image

the only reason to buy the ASE and AGE 3 coin sets is for the reverse proof.
the 2 coiner is a loser.

Struck on specially burnished blanks, the American Eagle Uncirculated Coins feature a finish similar to their bullion counterparts, but carry the "W" mint mark reflecting their striking at the United States Mint at West Point. Each coin is encapsulated in plastic and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

The American Eagle Gold and Silver Uncirculated Coins bear the same designs as their bullion and proof counterparts. The platinum version features the same obverse design found on the proof and bullion coins, but the reverse displays the design featured on the reverse of the 2006 American Eagle Platinum Proof Coin – a design honoring the Legislative Branch of our national government.

Priced at the relative mid-point between the American Eagle Proof Coins and the American Eagle Bullion Coins, the one-ounce American Eagle Gold Uncirculated Coins sell for $720.00; the 1/2-ounce for $375.00; the 1/4-ounce for $190.00; the 1/10-ounce for $85.00; and the four-coin gold uncirculated set for $1,350.

The one-ounce American Eagle Platinum Uncirculated Coin sells for $1,390.00; the 1/2-ounce for $720.00; the 1/4-ounce for $390.00; the 1/10-ounce for $180.00; and the four-coin platinum uncirculated set for $2,585. The one-ounce American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin sells for $19.95.

The 3-coin sets, silver and gold, with the reverse proofs are the keepers. I ordered 2 of the 3-coin silver eagle sets.

Let see the silver uncirculated silver is 19.95 and the uncirculated gold is $720 both with the W mint mark. That makes buying both $739.95 but the 2 coin anniversary set is $850 for the same coins. I am thinking I am going to cancel my 2 coin anniversay set order. Or am I wrong or mis read the mint announcment/ The 2 coin anniversary set must have a real expensive box.

I have to admit, some of these responses are image .
Since when is the mint supposed to be there to make other people money (profit)?

And, I have some on order as well, so I am in the same boat....I am just not going to cry about it as I went into it with my eyes wide open. If they sell out and are unique, and I make money, then cool. If not, then I am an adult and I understand it was speculative.

Now, I do think the Mint is being stupid on a lot of things (commems in particular) lately and we are seeing a glut of products and that will be a negative thing soon enough image

The reverse proof is still the set key. I voted keep all. But if they end up putting the reverse proof out there for individual purchase, I will be cancelling all but 1 set.

Keeping the silver sets. Mintage on the reverse cameo is significantly lower than other proof keys excluding 95-W.

Keeping my 10 ASE sets. DUMPED both of my 2 coin sets. It makes no sense to keep them. But if you really wanted each coin wait to buy them individually for 80 dollars less. What a bummerimage

I kept most of my 3pc silver sets due to the proofs and I think long term they will be a very collectible set. I did dump all 4 of my 2pc gold/silver sets. So the mint lost $3400 of my business just on those sets. I don't think the 2pc sets will sell out at all given the current announcement. We will have to see what happens later this month. I did keep my 3pc gold set though.

    I dumped 10 2-coiners and kept 12 3-coiners ( 2G and 10S).

It was too good to be true...instant modern winners. Now it's just typical mint-greedy-bafoonery (as opposed to my own.)

I can already see the impending presidental/wives nightmare.

I think the value of the reverse proof alone will exceed the cost of the entire set in a short time. I'm suprised they haven't sold out yet. Or have they? image

I am keeping 20 of the 3 coin ASE set. Cancelling both of the 2 coin set and hopefully I will get my second AGE set which was on the waiting list if people start cancelling there orders. I will order a $50 platinum uncirculated with the reverse of the 2006 platinum proof. I can see has some potential for this platinum, offering it late in the year like they did in 2004.

    Hello?

Where are you getting your information. I need a link to decide what to do about my 2 piece set I ordered. I planned to make some money on this, but can't afford to keep it if it doesn't work out.

I'll try to filp 5 of the 10 3 piece ASE sets if the demand is there. If not it's $1000 bucks not a big deal, give it a couple years. But I'm concerned bout the W Unc Eagles, I liked the idea of only 250k minted, now who knows with the latest news from the Mint. I might as well pick up some W Unc's as well, still a low mintage number.
