    Actually, from the pics it looks like a planchet flaw.

    Is it raised or incuse?

    If it's raised it is a die crack.

    looked incused to me; are these scarce with Mint flaws this large?

    Okay, if it's incuse than I should think it happened pre-striking. See how it doesn't go through the hair? If it was a scratch it would go through the hair, I think.

    But I have never seen anything like this before.

    Possibly. I doubt PCGS would of graded that coin if it was a scratch.

    Looking at the photo, I'd have to guess it is an incuse feature.

    My sense is a planchet flaw or a strike through, because if it was a scratch and in a PCGS holder, I would fall out of my chair. image

    Just curious guys, as i had never seen one before. I stumbled upon the auction and it just ended at $151.00

    It's a strike through error. Something was sitting between the planchet and the obverse die at the moment of striking.

    Looks like a strike thru to me. Looks to uniform (not jagged) to be a scratch. Possibly from a small piece of wire or a bristle from some type of brush or broom.

    I was thinking scratch but I think you're right it probably is a strike through.

    Amanda, look again, it does go through the hair.

    I see it on one side of the bun and on the other side of the bun, but not on the bun itself.

    I have to agree with a strike through. Looks like a small piece of wire or metal was on the die and the coin appears as struck. However as with grading it would be much easier to tell with coin in hand. JMHO. Bob

    I agree its actually a srikethrough but it looks like a scratch. I don't care for the coin and would only buy it at a Derek2100 price.

    Looks very much like a staple scratch to me.
    Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
