What makes each coin in the 20th Anniversary Silver Eagle set special?

Other than the reverse proof, what makes the other coins special? image

    Did you get a set?

The unc carries a W mint mark, a first for uncs. This will make it the lowest mintage for a unc SAE by far.

  • Point is, if you want to have a complete type set of all of the GAEs, there are two coins here, the reverse proof and the mintmarked unc, that are not available from any other year. While it remains to be seen, I think that there are a lot of folks that will want to have a complete type set of the AEs, and this will have a good effect on the price.

What I am really curious about is why my order for 3 gold sets is marked as "on hold." When I check my order it says it is backordered, which is to be expected, but it also says (1) that I placed my order at 12:43 am instead of pm, a mistake, and also says the order is on hold. Since I did get through, with a lot of difficulty, and get my order placed, I am going to be more than annoyed if there is some problem with the mint. Guess I just have to wait until Tuesday and call. Is everyone's order on hold? (I doubt it).

Both my orders say the same thing. I ordered three sets of the ASE's on Wednesday, and 1 AGE set on Thursday. I think they had so many orders, even after the AGE's were sold out, that probabl;y they are having to sort through everything.

Nothing special about the regular Proof. Same the the current Proof in the single and 4 coin set. It's just 'filler' which jacks up the price of the set and allows the Mint to make more $$$$. That's 10,000 x $870 = $8.7 Million

Forgot the mention. My order is on Hold. This is common, I wouldn't worry about it.

  • I think what they do is take the orders...sometimes I wonder in what order!....Then they call the credit card company and charge your order and then it goes to shippping...then when they decide to package your order they put it in the mail.

I don't think they do anything with the CC until they are ready to put your order through and ship it, which won't happen for another month.

When they put your order through, if the CC isn't good, they'll just move on.

My Gold 3 coin set is in process.not on hold anymore. My second Gold 3 coins set was ordered after they were sold out. I am on the waiting list for my second set and I am on hold. My ASE sets are all in process.

  • some of my anniversary set orders are on hold and some in process. No rhyme or reason on which ones are on hold that I can tell.. some orders I placed earlier on hold and some of the later ones are in process.

The biggest winner of all of the coins offered of course is the gold reverse proof with "P" mintmark, with total mintage of 10,000. However, the 3 coin set that you had to purchase for this coin contain the normal proof thrown in as the aforemention 'filler'.

I like the 2 coin unc set, which has no fillers thrown in. You get the silver and gold unc coins with the W mintmark..... a first..... and both will be keys for both series unc sets with the lowest mintage by far. 30,000 unc for the gold, and 270,000 unc for the silver. 270,000 sounds like a lot.... but compare to the normal unc mintages.

It may be hype..... but the fact remains that the Mint made several key coins with low mintages.... so let the frenzy begin.... er, I should say continue.......

Another post indicated that an US Mint customer service rep said that 152,000 had been sold. However.... I suspect that number may be dated, and perhaps not an up to date one. I think they are not sold out.... but I would not wait too long...

  • I picked up the silver set because after purchasing the UNC Set I figured, what's another $100 on a 0.0% APR credit card? image I really can't wait to get the UNC set because of the nice contrast between the silver and gold and the presentation case. In addition, it will be my first one ounce american gold coin. image
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.
  • From previous post;

"The biggest winner of all of the coins offered of course is the gold reverse proof with "P" mintmark,"

The Gold reverse is to be minted with the W, not the P.... that would be the reverse proof silver eagle for the Philadelphia mint.

Will the PROOF coins have a W or a P mint mark? If they have a P then the regular PROOF will be unusual as the single PROOF coin available from the mint has a W.

    A stupid question?

If the 1995-W set was the 10th anniversary, why is the 2006-W the 20th anniversary?

Shouldn't it have been the 2005 year or is there something wrong with my thinking?

image Ohhhhhhhhhhhh.....................that was a very cold shower you threw at us!!!!!!
Enjoy each day as though it was your last.
  • I am sorry. I wish it was not a possibility but I do not think the mint has addressed the problem.
I hope it doesn't happen to everyone who has purchased them, but I won't buy and take the chance.
Hope you all had a safe weekend

  • Is there anyway to clean the coin before submitting that may stop the future milk spots or is already too late once they are purchased?
    Thanks

I believe the two coin set are regular W proofs, not the W uncs. The two coin set is JUST fillers, nothing special about the coins at all. The ONLY way to get the W uncs is in the three piece sets.

    << <i>Will the PROOF coins have a W or a P mint mark? >>

The regular proof coins will have W mintmarks just like the other proof eagles that the mint has already sold.

    the 2pc coins are uncs

and only the reverse proof silver will carry the p mintmark.

all other coins in the series have the w
