What is the worst State Quarter Design yet.

rooksmithrooksmith Posts: 1,441 ✭✭✭✭✭
For the WORST 50-State quarter design, hands down - I vote for my home state of Wisconsin . What can only be described as cow having some cheese and an ear of corn on the side - WTF! were they thinking ?? Sorry - I'm ashamed to be a Wisconsinite.

A cow, an ear of corn and a wheel of cheese. --- They left out the brawurst, a stein of Schlitz and the GreenBay packer Symbol,.. and while they were at it they could have put in a wall-eyeed pike , and a Harley Motorcycle. being driven my an Indian on his way to the Casino.

Way too many icons...,

Wisconsin quuarter

image

And look at what they passed up:

image

I would have chosen the explorers and the Indians. There is some historical truth to this image.

image

And yes, there are plenty of deer. Too many.

image

But this one is the best - this is "Stand Rock" near Wisconsin Dells, which is a sort of grand-canyon of the Wisconsin River. This rock was and is an icon of the state. We used to go to some tourish Indian shows right below it. The highlict was wathing a college kid dressed as an Indian jump across the gap..

But I would have settled for something with the shape of the state and Robert Lafolette in the middle, or somthing.

Anything but a cow having some cheese with his corn.

I really dislike the Colorado design also.

Now on another note which one is the best, or at least your favorite?

Uhhhh....Idaho isn't schedule for release until 2007. Have you a picture of the proposed design?

My home state of Maryland had a chance to use a Ft McHenry design showing the star fort with "bombs bursting in air". Instead they pick the capital building which looks like an inverted ice cream cone. Lame.

I would have rather seen a basketball or a player making a slam dunk on the Indiana quarter.

While the Indy 500 is part of the states history its status has dropped a lot over the years and I think basketball is a bigger
part of the states heritage and interest.

In contrast, I think the best one so far is Nevada. I bought it in PF70 silver. Most are mediocre at best. Look at Idaho's design for next year. Yuck. A bird's head with an outline of the state next to it. Even just a big potato would have looked better...

Wow, that Idaho is terrible. Looks like some unseen hand is going to jugular the bird with a jagged piece of glass.

The problem with the designs, as many have stated, is that while artists submit ideas, artists do not decide. The result is the compulsion to cram as many elements as possible to make every conceivable citizen happy, thereby cluttering the field and making no one happy. As we say in advertising: All emphasis is no emphasis.

ttown, I like #10...it reminds me of the Grapes of Wrath...if people know Oklahoma history this would be my pick...I like it. I think it depicts the hardship with the pioneer woman and the discovery of oil and gas for what Oklahoma is known for.

I used to want to have a full silver proof set of the quarters, along with the clad proofs. But since the 1999 and 2000 silver sets hazed so badly and the designs have become so lackluster, I'm just going to do clad proofs. I'm getting slabbed silver proofs for only the designs I like and my home state of MI. Hopefully Hawaii finishes off the program on a high note.

Also, any word on what is going to happen in 2009? I think by default the quarter will revert to the 1932-1998 design correct?

Not enough detail on the coin to say which one, there are close to forty three masted schooners along the Maine Coast, the Windjammers are big down around Rockland / Camden area.

Nevada's the best so far, though I'm mighty fond of Connecticut. Any state q with a state outline gets my down check. I don't think we've seen the worst yet, though my state, Maryland, is awfully dull. Colorado looks mighty pretty when brand-new and you hold it in the light just right.

As for Wisconsin: Quiet about the lakes, the scenic rocks, the Indians, and the deer! It's all a semi-secret that the rest of the country isn't supposed to notice - just ask the state tourism bureau!

The Natalie Todd is a four masted schooner out of Bar Harbor.

Edit: You were right, the Todd is only a three masted schooner, just checked the website.

Some of those schooners out there in the harbor are not that old, not as old as the Todd. I went out on a whale watch on the Atlanticat about a month ago, didn't see the Todd, she must have been out for the day.
