"It CAN"T happen. The regular Proofs have been on sale since the first of the year. Your wayyyyy past first strike on those."
That is exactly correct. One of the (3) coins - the regular proof $50 Gold Eagle has already had its First Strike time period expire much earlier this year. However, the other (2) Gold coins would appear to be "fair game" for a FS designation I believe.

I'm not sure about the first strike thing with the proof since this one will have the W mint mark on it... may still be eligible for 1st strike... if they allow for this special set.

How many three coin sets are to be minted? I think they all will be first strikes for the two new issues. So why waste the $30.

First strike? How about "First Day", "Second Day" and which one of the two will have the lowest mintage.
And then there is the "AM", "PM".
OMG what if you could get it certified with the time and date it was ordered!!
