How would you handle this....

I recently purchased a lot of morgan dollars from someone on ebay...

the seller described the coins as "various" conditions

The coins all turned out to be culls...damaged, cleaned, holed, etc...

1)Should I email the seller first and voice my displeasure?

2)Leave neutral/neg feedback for the misrepresentation?

3)Say, screw it because today's (really) my birthday and just give him a positive?

4)Smack myself for not asking him to be more specific about what "various" means?

Opinions appreciated...thx

Did the seller describe the "various" conditions as being different than you received?

Sounds like "various" describes what you've listed here....leaving you with just item 4. But since it's your birthday, don't feel bad. I'm sure you didn't pay a lot. Enjoy, Jerry

Various condition is ebay slang for "crap". Sounds like you just bought your tuition into the wonderful world of sleazebay....

Based on the pics looks like culls to me.
    Just don't leave feedback

  • WOW $960

I would contact PayPal and file a "Item not as described" claim, but it doesn't look good for you image

You brought this on yourself, no reason to neg the seller.

Melt for a Morgan is currently about $10.60 each. You paid $12 each. $112 over melt or $1.40 per coin.

Search them for a possible rare VAM or anything else possibly worth a premium. Even one could be a break even.

Re-sell the lot on ebay. Otherwise you could sell them for melt to a bullion dealer and take a loss as a lessoned learned.

    edit: and another thing... image

On the bright side, if Silver rallies another buck, I'm back at even, bullion wise.....

I know I was wrong in some respects, but I was considering giving him a positive or neutral,
just letting him know that he needs to be more honest with his listings in the future. I wouldnt
neg. because it is partially my fault as well.

Its not a major hit, I know.....Just the cost of learning...

Anyone want to buy some exotic chinese morgan dollar works of art? Cheap...haha just kiddin'

Ask for a refund policy UPFRONT before you bid.

    No Return policy no bid.

That said, ask anyway and see what happens.

What's the down side of the deal? Not a whole lot, so consider yourself lucky.

ok, this just in from the seller regarding his policy:

My return policy is: Returns allowerd only on items not as decribed". I described these as "circulated" which would include those you describe as "Culls". I also indicated that I was not qualified to grade these coins, I am sorry if the coins are not of the quality you expected. I'm sorry you misintereted the quality/condition of the coins. I believe I accurately described the coins, and would be unwilling to offer a refund at this time. Please address any future e-mails thru E-bay and not my personal e-mail. This will make it easier to provide information to E-Bay

    Does anyone's opinion change now???

No, my opinion of the seller isn't changing, but my opinion of you is beginning to take on the idea that you aren't willing to accept responsibility for your own actions if in fact you are pressing to return the pieces based on the auction and if the auction images are accurate. The seller shows images of the coins on top of one another and I can easily tell that there are many low grade coins in the lot and that at least some of them appear polished or cleaned. If this is the lot you received, then it is inconsistent with your initial assertion that the "coins all turned out to be culls...damaged, cleaned, holed, etc..." If this is not the lot you received, then you should try to return them. Dude, you made a bad purchase that appears to have been from a legitimate auction, why are you trying to return them when you bought them just over spot?

I've made a bad decision, and have admitted that I am responsible...

And, I will not penalize the seller for any misrepresentation.

    I am learning every day.......

Damn "buy it now" button got the best of me!!!!

Looking at the auction, you got what you paid for and I'm pleased you realized that (you learned smoething). You can still learn more by searching for vams, if your into such searches. So heck with the price of silver and the cost of education.... your way ahead...

BTW looking at HIS feed back it's 100% (not many sales though) I would still leave him a positive

First course of action is #4. Put some effort into it.
    Then #3.
Then take one every time you go to a coin show and give it to a kid who is there with his mother, not his father. The kid will be thrilled even if it is a cull.
