Also, did you guys select expidited shipping or standard?

I was charged 17.90 for the expidited, but I thought there was a free shipping upgrade for orders over $300?

Was I supposed to select standard shipping, and then I would automatically get the free upgraded shipping.? >>

I just placed a second order for 5 silver sets. I sellected expidited, and checking my email receipt it says $4.95. It doesn't say expidited, or standard. Just freight. But it dose appear to have changed automaticly.

It would be great if PCGS came out with the 3 coin holder like NGC did for the gold set. I am keeping mine in the nice wood box that they are coming in.

yes, select the standard shipping. It costs $4.95 and upgrades to FedEx automatically.

would just call the Mint and have someone look at your order, they can change it if need be. Don't cancel the order.

Here is the Mint's Press Release. I had never heard of these before today.

    August 21, 2006

United States Mint Announces American Eagle 20th Anniversary Sets

Three Sets Feature Silver, Gold Eagles in Uncirculated, Proof, Reverse Proof Finishes

WASHINGTON - The United States Mint today announced that three special sets celebrating the 20th anniversary of the American Eagle Coin Program will be available for sale on Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at 12:00 noon (ET).

The three-coin American Eagle 20th Anniversary Silver Coin Set, priced at $100, will contain one coin each of a proof, reverse proof and uncirculated silver eagle. The proof and uncirculated coins will have a “W” mint mark, and the reverse proof will have a "P" mint mark.
The American Eagle 20th Anniversary Gold & Silver Set, priced at $850, will contain one uncirculated silver eagle and one uncirculated one-ounce gold eagle, both bearing the "W" mint mark. The gold and silver set also will have an informative booklet outlining the history of gold and silver in coins throughout history.
The three-coin American Eagle 20th Anniversary Gold Set, priced at $2,610, will contain a proof, reverse proof and uncirculated one-ounce gold eagle, all bearing the "W" mint mark.
Set Price Maximum Mintage Order Limit
American Eagle 20th Anniversary Silver Coin Set
Three coins, one each: proof, reverse proof and uncirculated $100 250,000 10
American Eagle 20th Anniversary Gold & Silver Set
Two coins: one uncirculated gold one oz. and one uncirculated silver $850 20,000 10
American Eagle 20th Anniversary Gold Coin Set
Three coins, one each, one oz.: proof, reverse proof and uncirculated $2,610 10,000 10

The American Eagle Gold Proof Coins, which were first issued in 1986, bear a rendition of internationally renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens' image of Liberty holding a torch and an olive branch aloft. The reverse of the gold American Eagles, by sculptor Miley Busiek, features a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings. The coins are struck at the United States Mint at West Point and bear the "W" mint mark.

The American Eagle Silver Proof Coin's obverse (heads) design is Adolph A. Weinman's full-length figure of Liberty in stride with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. The reverse (tails) design, by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver John Mercanti, features the heraldic eagle with shield, an olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left.

American Eagle Gold and Silver Reverse Proof Coins are one of the special offerings developed to celebrate the program’s 20th anniversary. They feature a unique finish which results in a frosted field, or background, and a brilliant, mirror-like, finish on the raised elements of the coin, including the design and inscriptions. These coins are only available in the three-coin sets that celebrate the 20th anniversary of the American Eagle Programs.

American Eagle Gold and Silver Uncirculated Coins are being introduced in 2006. These coins feature the same finish as their bullion counterparts, but unlike the American Eagle Bullion Coins, the American Eagle Uncirculated Coins bear the mint mark of the facility that produces them and follow a different path through the manufacturing process. Specifically, the planchets used for American Eagle Uncirculated Coins are burnished, while those used for American Eagle Bullion Coins are not.

Because mintages of the 2006 American Eagle 20th Anniversary Sets are limited, orders should be placed early. The United States Mint reserves the right to limit quantities and may discontinue accepting orders at any time.

Customers can purchase the 2006 American Eagle 20th Anniversary Sets through the United States Mint’s secure website at www.usmint.gov, or by calling toll-free 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468) 8:00 a.m. to midnight (ET), seven days a week. Hearing- and speech-impaired customers may order by calling 1-888-321-MINT (6468) 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (ET), Monday through Friday.

Everyone seems to be overlooking the two piece gold silver set with a uncirculated gold Eagle with a W mintmark for $850. That's the gold set for to buy if they can't afford the three piece set.

Note this set doesn't get you any proofs. Also, near as I can tell it is not a true 10,000 coin set. The MS coins are the same ones as in the 3 coin sets so if people break the 3 coin sets up and put them on ebay that puts 10k more gold MSs out there and 250k more silver MSs out there.

    --Jerry
  • Ahhh, but these MS's are special very special as far as mintage numbers go compared to the other coins which make up the set!....These are going to be sweet in anyones collection wheater they collect eagles or not!
  • "American Eagle Gold and Silver Uncirculated Coins are being introduced in 2006. Therefore the 2 coin gold/silver set is a great set as well with "burnished" surfaces. I just put in an order for a few of these because at $850 the price point is more to my taste.

    10 of everything.

Hopefully these will be winners. >>

Ten of everything? Even the gold at $2,610? Ponied up over 26K for modern coins from the Mint?

Yep, I agree. Atleast you get one of the limited Gold coins for a fraction of the price. You don't have to buy the regular Proof as with the 3 coin gold set.

As for the silver in the 2 coin set, no big deal, because the 3 coin set is only $100 anyway.

I've got a couple of these also. I'm covering all the bases. Which ever one ZOOOMS, I'm in.

OK, this is the Press release from the Mint, I confused:

They will be different from the bullion becuase of the "W" mint mark, but will they look different?
Maybe like the 'old' Unc used to???

Ordered 2 of each (3-coin sets) earlier today, and just called in an order for 2 more of each (order #23130373) @ about 5PM ET. I was surprised my second order went through. I half thought the would be sold out by then.

Just ordered 2 silver sets, and the SF coins. All backordered for December delivery.

Just placed 2 individual orders for one each of 3 coin Silver. I may sell these as unopened later. And I took the plunge on the three piece gold set, even though I don't collect this series. I see the reverse gold proof with only 10,000 mintage as the winner out all of the sets offered and if not I can always sell hopefully for at least what I bought it for later on. The $800 premium over melt sure does hurt right now.

10 Silver sets ordered at 12:05 on 8/30 over the phone with no problem!
Remember to request Registered Mail....There is no extra charge for this and is MUCH safer!

    I LOVE IKES!!
  • I believe the gold set to be a long term hold....as like you say we payed a premium for it as being way over melt.....but in the long run the set will be a winner..so I would not worry...only thing to worry about if collectores stop collecting...
  • pf70collectorpf70collector Posts: 6,749 ✭✭✭
As a side note. Comparing order numbers from yesterday to today there was an increase of 22026 orders in about a 20 hour peroid. Depends on what they were buying but at that rate maybe the silver eagle sets will sell out in 10 days.

I also took the plunge. One 3 coin gold set. It is a hard expence, and I don't collect the series either. I do have a few 1/10 OZ eagles. But I wanted some I could see details on without a glass. image I have no intention of selling them. EVER. Needless to say, I can't see the future. It could become unavoidable. If this does happen I can only hope for double the price.image

  • Granted I am just a minnow in this large pond but I would like to thank the US mint I checked the status of my order which shows on hold, This seemed strange to me so I called and talked to a real person (imagine that) she explained to me that since I had changed my credit card information on the same day that I ordered and that this was my largest order to date the mint checks to make sure that I did the order. She also told me that this was a "HUGE" success for the mint and that many other orders would show the hold status until the mint did its dudiligence on those orders, and even though I was showing a ship date of 12/06 she thought the first orders would leave by Fedex right around the 10/6/06 date that orginally showed.
