Toned Gold for your pleasure and comments.

There are periodically requests for toned gold coins and until now I really had nothing to show. Some new picture updates give a nice representation of faint tone on this Sesquicentennial. It almost appears that with this tone there's something missing instead of how there's usually something added. The luster adds to the beauty as the coin just glows. Enjoy and post something if you have it.

Nice coin Al. I think I remember when you bought this. Or maybe you were just looking at that time.

ah Mark, you have such a good memory!! yes indeed, i bought it while in Orlando at the F.U.N. Show back in 2004, i think that's the year. the seller was none other than Superior and they had four coins for me to choose from. that seems like such a longtime ago. i recall sitting next to a recently banned GMarguli(very enjoyable dinner conversation) at the NGC luncheon which was a feast, talking about C'stamped Cleveland Commems with Greattoning(our own Mr D) as some of the first displayed shipwreck coins from the new discovery were displayed(but i forget the ship's name), Mark Feld was still with Pinnacle and working tirelessly, Dennis Tarrant still added a D and E to Jade Rare Coins and submitting coins for certification was a bit cheaper as was gasoline!!image i recall a hearty lunch which i think included the Pugimage and meeting Fatman who seemed a little bummed out that we weren't up to going out drinking with him.image

memories, may be beautiful, and then

A great looking Sesqui quarter eagle!

<< the seller was none other than Superior ...>>

Better, still, that you therefore probably got it for 99 cents image

they didn't have that special going yet!!

actually, they had an NGC/MS62, one each PCGS and NGC/MS63 and another NGC/MS64. i had the unique oppurtunity of being able to compare them side by side for about 10-15 minutes, convincing myself that i wanted the MS62 because it was a nicer coin and not just cheaper. after about a year i cracked it and PCGS put it in an MS63 holder. i'm still not convinced it shouldn't be a point higher but i like it where it's at. the main reason for the PCGS slab was uniformity in my set, not monetary, so there's no need for anything to change.

oh yeah, this was the first Gold coin i bought.
