  • I like your choice of an 1861 year set. I already have a super proof Buff. The Pan Pac $50 is on my list. Well both $50 Pan Pacs are on my list. image I'm also wanting a nice chain cent.

OK, one big thing on my list is Gobrecht dollars. Yup I want a type set of G$s. OK, OK, if I can't have the set I'll just take the cheapest one... I'll buy the rest once I win the lotto...

I'd start with a coiled Hair Stella, followed by an Ultra High Relief. Then a complete set of every gold pattern. If I had any money left after that I'd start on a complete set of Regular issue Proof gold then I'd . . . . well I'd be pretty old and quite broke by that time, but a gem set of Bust Halfs would be a nice finish. image

What makes you think I was offended by rec78?

"Tail" is a VERY offensive term, I have discovered. I am not "flattered," Fletcher.

With unlimited funds, I would work on a MS set of US coins from 1793-Present (non-gold). All denominations and dates; I would even buy the proofs.

Until then, I am working on a mostly circulated set from 1793-Present.

I would also buy a high grade Proof Set 1c-$20 from 1888 (100 years before I was born).

My dream list would be a highest grade set of bust and flowing hair dollars, halves. dimes and half dimes. And yes the list would include the highest grade 1804 proof dollar.image

Thank you, sir! my site has been a very enjoyable project for the past year and change.

Council Grove is a nice. When I first moved out this way from Seattle, I moved in with my (now) wife in Manhattan - also a nice town out that way, but a little geared toward the college kids.

I thought about it and realized I got a lot of what would have been on my dream list years and years ago. A few prooflike Morgans remain on the list though: 1883-S, 1893-S, and 1921-S.

  • If I had all the money in the world to spend on coins, I wouldn't necessarily go for grade or hype. I would find whatever it was that I liked, perhaps travel more to find what I'd like, but the story would be the same. Well...maybe a little different, like a as complete a gold type set as I could theoretically complete...maybe...This grade stuff, and this pan pac stella stuff...that's not coin collecting...image

Full MS 1916 Mint Set with gold (Currently attempting this ;o, but its tough in the 25k and under club)
    Full Dahlonega date/denom set
    Breast Stamped Brasher Doubloon
    J-1776
    A Merc Dime pattern
The, what I call Twilight Zone 1916 pattern Walker, with the odd looking "Liberty"
    and this pattern:

I'd be content with just seeing most of these in person though, ownership isn't a necessity for me so much.

The Louis Eliasberg collection plus everything that has been discovered since.
But realistically though--If you could get anything you wanted would it still be fun? Would it be a challenge if you had no competition? Would you learn much by just puchasing coins and not studying them? Wouldn't it get old fast?
If this were the case i think i would abandon collecting coins or collecting anything for that matter and take up a different hobby. Bob
