is there such things as a holder being sent to you in MS70?

Why is it so hard to get a perfect scratch free holder from the grading services?

Just as coins are not MS-70, so are the holders. The plastic is softer than even the softest coin metal, aluminum. Just looking at PCGS slab will scratch it.

I suspect that the type of plastic that can be used for sonic-sealing is scratch-prone.

It may be possible that the shells are allready scratched when they arrive at PCGS. The processing at the molding plant could have been rough. Molding, trimming, arranging, and packaging. The real question there is what type of packaging. Were the shells arranged and stacked, or just shipped loose in boxes?
  • PCGS quality control appears to be non-existant. I had a bust quarter slabbed, and it came with a gouge front & center!
  • Not to Worry---Most scratches can be polished-out, try Meguires PlastX

Actually, thanks for the tip. Get it as car parts stores?

  • Maybe PCGS will open a new service to grade their slabs...

"Now get your PCGS slab graded"

Instead of mint state will will get "PS" Plastic State

PS70= Flawless holder. No scratches or marks, coin is set 100% level with no printing smudges. Hologram is placed perfectly in the center.

PS69= Near Flawless. No Scratches or marks on holder. Coin may be 1-2 degress rotated in holder. Also hologram may have some off-centering.

PS68 =Very slight hairlines allowed, but none over the coin in the holder. Coin may be rotated up to 5 degrees. No emphasis on hologram.

PS67= Only one or two very light hairline scratches allowed over coin in holder. Coin be be rotated up to 15 degrees(anything more is considered an error an must be submitted in on correct form).

    and so on
