Is anyone disappointed that Donn Pearlman is not writing for Numismatist anymore?
I saw that this month's issue contained his last regular article. He seems to be starting a new business venture. Does anyone know specifically what this venture is? Also, will anyone miss his articles in the back of the magazine. Personally, I didn't care for them, and maybe I don't enjoy the same type of humor that he has, but I did not find his articles funny. Does anyone have any comments?

Most of his articles were cheesy, but there were a few I found to be quite humorous.

<< <i>I did not realize he was leaving. My reading of the Numismatist has been spotty, but I always read his column. I wish him well on future ventures and hope he can take this over again in due course. In the mean time, is it true that Longacre will be filling in?
nah,Longacre's too serious for a column like that....

Unfortunately, no. Writing for Numismatist would violate the non compete provision of my contract with CU to post here.

PS: As noted in my September 2006 column, I've recently started another business venture (Donn Pearlman, Inc., a communications company) and it is taking a considerable amount of time for the administrative as well as creative work. Ending the column -- along with other time-saving efforts such as only sleeping on alternate Tuesdays -- was required. The October issue of the magazine will have an announcement about ways readers can help fill the back page -- although many of you already had your own strong opinions about that prior to my last column!
For those who enjoyed the column most of the time, thank you. For those who didn't, well, there's always the Obituary page to read.
See you in Long Beach........

Me, too! Of course, you have to understand humor in order to appreciate it...
I will miss the column.

I thought his articles would sometimes point out truths in a light hearted manner and other times just bring out some humor which is one thing this hobby seriously lacks.

I loved him for his cheese.
<< <i>When my monthly copy of Numismatist magazine arrived, the first page I'd turn to is the Obituaries. I figured that if I saw my name listed, then I would know I didn't have to write another column.....

Wow, I did not know that Halfsense is Donn Pearlman. Good luck to you in your new business..

Me, too.
You lurk among us, sir? Excellent. I loved your column, and shall miss it dearly. I particularly remember the one about the Mexican peso you mistook for a Statehood quarter, with the picture of you wearing your hat backwards. What was it called... NumisDoofus?
That was a hoot.
It also launched me into a life of crime, spending Mexican pesos for a quarter.

'Twas a figger o' speech.
I've very much enjoyed your column, especially the deftness with which you make a point through humor. You hit far more than you missed. The back page of Numismatist is just plain fun. I'd give Mr. Shinnick's (Lordmarcovan's) comments more credence that some others here; if you've read a couple of his most recent threads, you'll see that he's qualified to offer an opinion by virtue of his ability to write informative, entertaining pieces.
Best of luck.
Edited to add: Please make the First Strike™ the target of your last column.

This hobby is full of too many uptight, serious, suspicious and grumpy people in general, a little humor is OK and needed.
Good luck with your new venture, Donn!!
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Halfsense, are you done with the hobby totally, or just giving up the column?
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I agree with that goose.
There's LOTS of funny stuff in this hobby, Lord knows. I just hope the mag finds a worthy successor. There're some Board members I think would qualify!
Good luck to you, Donn!

Donn Pearlman was one of the few reasons I renewed my ANA membership last year. Now, why bother?
Last year at the ANA, I told him that since he had moved to Las Vegas, he ought to arrange to have his tombstone read "But it's a dry wit!"

<< <i>I am shocked and disappointed by the lack of tact some of our forum members and fellow hobbyists have. Perhaps the detractors can do a better job. Personally I'd rather see Clankeye on the back page of every issue (the front page too for that matter), but the chances of them printing that kind of stuff are ZERO.
I wish donn the best, though I have never met him in person.
I tear off the paper-mailing cover and toss the mag. into the waiting room. The only time I pay attention is if someone here wrote an article.

I'll try to be more tactful - nothing shocks me about this forum anymore. However, I will note that the original post seems to be requesting all viewpoints and not just wanting a thread full of accolades. With that in mind, I will state that while I always read his column [I find the whole magazine rather dry], I rarely thought it very funny.
