Is this a chopmarked copper- or just a damaged coin? Large photo...

Here is a flying eagle cent that I recently ran across... looks to me like it may be chopmarked, similar to what one would find on trade dollars. But... this makes little sense to me. Has anyone else found chopmarked copper on earlier coins? Or... is this just a damaged coin.....

I believe chop marks were made to verify silver content. I think this is just plain old post mint damage.

Hmm... I did a quick search on google.... and found out that there ARE actually some coppers that are chopmarked! Not very common, obviously, since it is usually done with preciousl metals coins, as mentioned earlier. But they do exist.

So... how does one tell the difference between a chopmarked coin.... and just a damaged one? What has me curious on this coin is the shape of most of the marks.... a curved rounded at one end... and pointed at the other.... so I am not totally convinced it is just damage at this point.
