"What's it to you? Religious Tolerence, I say!"

Don't think any normal people would call THAT a bona-fide religion.

"Oh prince of darkness, pleae help me rip little kids, widows, & orphans & I'll pledge my eternal soul to you to exist in perperpetual damnation forever..."

I'm not saying I WON'T see you there, just that I'm not TRYING to get there (or more succinctly - trying - LIKE HELL - pun intended - to NOT get there). image

You could have insisted that the bank manager contact the kids parents first. >>

No need to push the Good Samaritan thing to that extent. I see nothing wrong with the deal. >>

Neither do I. I find it rediculous to see these "you should have contacted the kid" posts ....... yeah right! It's a freakin bank!
I wonder if these same people, when at a grocery store, when getting a silver quarter in change will ask the teller to try and find the person who spent it?

What a mushroom cloud...haven't seen this much banter since "modern crap."

    1. Bank tellers are not constables or psychs and would probably be fired for interfereing in this litigious society.
    2. A "kid" with that much silver probably needs it for crack or meth. Turn him into a YN? Huhh? It's too late.
    3. I have found silver in rolls from the bank and have always thought that someone really needs the money...I never thought of going back and tracking that person down. I must be a horrible person.
    4. Go outside and enjoy the day, and when you're downtown give some crack-head some silver.

<< <i>I went to the bank to make a deposit. I ask the guy for a pen at the drive up window. He passes me a pen and a worn walker (he knows I deal in coins) and says "Are these things worth anything?"

I reply, "Yeah, about a buck and a half." (I come to find out that was a little low!)

He says that some kid just deposited a bunch of old coins. The teller said "I bought about 27 dollars worth but you can buy the rest, just park and come in."

I do and end up buying five rolls of Roosevelt dimes (I think it was five), three rolls of Franklin Halves, six or seven rolls of old Jefferson nickels and a roll of 40% Kennedys. (I think that is a fairly accurate accounting.)

    They cost me $60.

I then drive over to the Richardson Coin show and go to one of the dealers who pays me $385 for the group less the Jefferson nickels which he didn't want.

    I thought, 'that was cool'!

Today I'm going to buy some nickel boards and let my daughters fill in the holes with the Jefferson's that I bought. >>

I am still curious as to why you posted this thread. It sounds like you were pretty proud of the windfall here. I think this really happened. If this is a hypothetical I wish you would say so. If it isn't, maybe after reading all this you might consder making a $325 contributuion to the ANA YN program to help educate young people in the hobby. It sure would help offset that $325 profit you will be required to report as well as help educate some younger enthusiasts. Just a suggestion.image

I noticed that Anaconda hasn't been back to this thread since a lot of members have posted their thoughts on the subject. I think it really happened and he was proud of the windfall. Wonder if he is still proud? This is what I posted to RYK thread: If you went to the bank to make a deposit / withdrawal / cash a check / get into your safety deposit box and a teller friend of yours shows you a walker half and tells you that, "Little Bobby who is ten just brought in 3 rolls of silver quarter, 4 rolls of Franklin halves and 2 rolls of silver dimes, do you want them", then I think you should ask the teller if he / she had contacted little Bobby's parents to make sure that the coins were his to deposit. If the teller answers no, then I would pay for the coins and ask him / her to call the parants and that I would return later in the day to pick up the coins or my money. It doesn't take a rocket scienctist to realize that little Bobby didn't get all that sliver from his paper route. Even if the Teller told me that when little Bobby came in, he said that he got the coins from his granmother, I would say that it still needs to be verified by calling the parents. (If little Bobby had taken the coins without permission, what would he tell the Teller besides "I got them from my granmother"?). I suppose that you could just keep the coins and sell them for a profit, but to me 'you have to sleep with yourself first', if you have no conscience that these coins may have been stolen from a fellow collector then go ahead and enjoy the "rip".

I CERTAINLY believe anyone has a right to quote whatever lyrics they want AND to be a satanist if that's what they choose.

Rb- are you really this stupid? Or are you just acting stupid just to get some people to laugh at you? image

I was thinking the same thing.

Didn't the bank teller already advise the kid not to turn them in? He said he did and that is what he was supposed to do (ethically) and that is where this should end.

I work at a bank and if it is anyone's responsibility to question the transaction it is the bank employees NOT the third party customer who got the coins in the end. Even if the validity of this thread is in question this type of transaction does happen and I have witnessed this to varying degrees numerous times over the years.

Yes, I'm sure a 10 year old kid is wise in the way of the world and fully understands what the teller was explaining to him. Geez, I can't even tell grown people (non-collectors) not to buy whizzed junk and they don't listen. There's a reason there are laws in force for minors, they don't reason like adults.

  • you people sure can jump to conclusions....I never saw the age of this "kid" by the original poster but the "kid" went from KID to MINOR to 10 YEARS OLD................image

wow, you guys think too deep. I come to read about a coin deal and we go from Judas to Jesus and how they went their separate ways. This place is amazing.
I'm still scratchin' my orbs wondering why the author would sell out on that many coins that have been set aside for soooooooo long , and not even cherry pick them. image

and who is using their noggin here ? I would hope some of you men would sit on your fingers a little longer before typing some of the stuff we type here.
