Which one do you take home and put in the safe deposit box?

Well coinguy1 has some nice coins AND he would fit in the SDB, so it is a tossup image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I'd take home the coin. The dealer would only critisize my collection as being low quality widgets. Besides, after being stuck in my safe deposit box for a few days, he'd start to smell pretty bad.

There are very few dealers who I would trust to buy for me.
Consequently I end up buying the coin nearly all the time.

I would buy the coin AND the dealer if possible. I love buying from a dealer who is tougher than myself (this usually means less informed such as selling BU $5 Indians as AU because the cheek is flat). And the flip side, I try to totally avoid those who grade loosely. No sense in wasting time sending stuff back from someone who has different standards than yourself. I can't tell you how many times the first experience with a new "major" dealer is an eye opener. Try as you might to hope for the best, it just doesn't seem to pan out. It's sort of like hoping the key lot in the next auction is the coin you've been searching for. Then once you see it, you realize it's a pig in the poke and not the exquisite gem as described in the writeup.

I took my dealer home last weekend. My wife cooked him a nice meal and we talked coins. So the answer is both.
  • A good dealer can hook you up with multiple good coins, so I'll take the dealer. image
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

Agreed, but at the end of the day you will have to live with the coin.

I forgot what other thread prompted me to start this one, but it had to do with blindly following a dealer and buying what they throw at you. Some people don't want to tell their favorite dealer "No, thanks" for various reasons like the fact that the dealer may not choose to call them first on the next good coin that comes in.

It's a judgment call, but I think in the end you better make sure you bought the coin.
