By the way, you do NOT need 12 megapixels for a coin picture. Get the D70 instead, which will be just as good.
I have one and it is awsome.
However, if you are just looking for a good camera for coins and general photography the Nikon D50 or D70 will fill the bill for about half the money.
Edited: I forgot to mention that in the auction you linked to, the body is terrific, but the rest of the stuff is JUNK!

10.2 MP. The body-only sells for $999.99 on Amazon, which seems to me to be a great deal.
Heck, you could always buy the right lens separately.

I've spent alot more than that for other stuff and it seems to matter little to my sex life at all.
spent $27,000 on a new van....i get "laid" more often than most here (infinitely more than cameron) and maybe not as much as others.
my wife of 32 years has NO complaints.
i just like nice stuff.
i do have a d70-s mounted on a trinoclular stereo scope with a diagnostics instruments 1x hrd100-nik lens attached to it for extreme close work...such as looking inside the walls of a hypodermic needle.
however at that magnification, the picture grains out at 6+ mega-pixels
at 12.4 the resolution should be clearer.
maybe i should have been more clear.

Less, now that you edited your thread title. I just think it's the height of silliness to consider spending that kind of money to image coins.

You might spend some of those funds on an English grammar primer instead.
Take a week to read the manual and figure out how to use everything, then post some nice photos of your collection for everyone to admire. Also, take some pic of the wife and kids and dog to prove to them that the money was well spent.

Go to your local photo shop, buy a nice Nikon D70s with a 24-85 zoom and a 105mm micro nikkor, 1 gig memory card and a small copy stand or reversible tripod. Buy a book on close-up photography and then search these and the NCG boards for coin photography tips.

Which canon do you like? I like canon's for taking photos of the kids but they don't seem to have good macros...otoh, the nikon i'm using now seems to have an above-average macro but doesn't focus fast enough to catch kids.
So a canon with a good macro might be perfect for me.

this has nothing to do with bragging or over spending.
1st ......you've no idea of what else i might use a 12.4 mega pixel camera for....(there are other things to photograph)

nowhere in any of my posts did i say i was actually going to buy it ...i mearly asked "is this camera deal real?"
i may be bad in grammer but you have a problem with attention to detail.
we could have shared more important coin related subject matter on a more friendly basis...but i see you're one of those who don't have anything to say unless its to pick at some one elses usage of the english language.
sure i make mistakes...and you don't?...and if you did so what?....i wouldn't try to make myself feel better about myself by making a crack at you, in a public forum.
