To what extent does your wife know about your coin "problem"?
I broke.....after 4 years I told her about HALF of what I had after an unending badgering attack. I was weak. I blew it.
At least "half of half" is better than the worse case scenario.
Fess up, you weaklings.

she was a bit surprised that I paid my car off this week after the denver show.

So she knows everything. One time I told her how much my collection was valued at by a particular periodical. It's a fairly good value, at least as far as I'm concerned. All she did was look at it and said, "is that all?" I don't know if she really has a good grasp on the value of money

Exactly!!

Probably most of us don't really have a problem, in all seriousness, but spouses do not always understand why a nickel would be worth millions. Some fear this coin fad might fizzle and it would revert to being worth five cents. Nice to have history on your side.

But yes, she knows about it, and encourages it. It's a lot cheaper (in the long run) than some of my other hobbies have been.

Hey, as long as she gets a neat set of wheels, a new house in a few years, etc., she's happy. Besides, she has over 60 pairs of shoes, maybe 100 pairs!!!! And, you dare infer I have an OCD.
<< <i>She knows some of the quantities, but is really not cognizent of the values. She thinks $200, it's $2000; she thinks $1000, it could be $10,000, and so on, and so on. They are written down inside of each storage box in the bank vault though. And she knows who to see in the event of my untimely demise.
And why not? It's not like she could kill you if you've already met that untimely demise...

<< <i>My wife knows I have about $200-250 tied up in coins. Since value is speculative, I simply quoted the face value. For me, that's about 400-500 coins. She thinks they're in saranwrap™ since I told her my better ones are in plastic.

Hey Jay!! Pssssst! Tell your wife that you might start executing your "Saint collecting plan" with her.........trade for an upgrade!!!!!
Bwuaahahahahahaahaaaaaaa!! Just kidding.
<< <i>I show my girlfriend coins that I want online, and she says "let's buy it- I'll pay for it".....
Damn, that is Really Scary! If you let her buy you something, you Will be forever indebted to her, do you understand? Mayhaps she has a plan in place and is already stocking up on 'ammo'?

Actually my wife is not only smarter, she's better looking and has me well trained.
Really quite simple, she say's jump and I just ask how high. No problem.
Really people, it's easy.
I don't get that from the coins or other women!

Not quite married-yet. But my parents don't know that I deal with a lot more people than they think. My mom's mostly the one I worry about the most because she worries about every single thing-It's the most annoying thing in the world.
But yeh, my collection has grown a lot larger than what my parents/ relatives know. The reason being is that they would be scared and excited at the same time.

again, metals, especially collectable coins are a solid portion of any diverse portfolio, within reason....even if your young...
