  $8.6 million - - gosh, the seller has never seen one before, so it must be worth more than any other U. S. coin has ever been sold for. You mean it's not?

  Seriously, the 1802 half dime is a very rare coin, 30 - 35 known, this is a nice one that's undamaged, the AU sold for $299K, so the asking price on this one doesn't surprise me at all. It's less money than Greysheet bid for a MS-66 1884-S, 1886-O, 1889-CC, 1892-S, 1893-O, 1893-S, 1895-O, 1896-O, or 1901 Morgan!
