It was so pretty until I blew the picture up....

Man I'm still learning both the grading, coins, lingo, picture taking,...

I just learned that no matter how pretty a lincoln penny can look with your eye and a small loupe that when you blow the picture way up they get ugly fast. Does this hit on the reverse kill this penny? The rest of the coin seems nice. Thanks in advance.

  • I'm not the expert here by any means, but try increasing the angle of your lighting, and knock down the exposure a tad.

From your title I expected something much worse. It still looks like a great coin to me. image
I've had great transactions with people like: drwstr123, CCC2010, AlanLastufka, Type2, Justlooking, zas107, StrikeOutXXX, 10point, 66Tbird, and many more!

It doesn't look round to me. I think that kills it more than the hit imageimage

Actually, all large images seem to magnify a coin's flaws. Trick is to try to get it to look in the images as close to possible what it looks like in reality. Sounds simple, but it's not really.
  • You don't have to blow up a Lincoln Memorial cent for them to be ugly. That's the way they were made.

That truly speaks volumes and is the best advice I've heard on the board lately. jws

  • Which hit indeed. Too much light, probably should try multiple artificial sources or diffuse daylight. Assuming you have a functional camera....
What do you think, Mr. Bigglesworth?
