I finally captured the charm of this 1830 Bustie

I took a photo of it awhile ago, when I first got it from the Reiver sale. The photo was lousy, and I kept looking at it (the photo) and started to not like the coin and regretted buying it. The other day I took it out from the safe deposit box and looked at it with prejudice that immediately went away when I finally 'saw' it. Finally. I took it home to photograph, and this time, using my 'new' technique, I shot it with only one stand up lamp (with a reveal bulb and a shade) in the distant corner of the room. Amazing. Thought some people here might like this one.

Hell yes. I couldn't stand it, it irked me every time I looked at that phot, and the first look I got of it (and I remember I was impressed) became mystery, hidden in the depth of dissatisfaction, gawking at a very substandard pic. Then, I looked at it again, and I knew that if I could get that blue into the photo, it would fram the coin from within, which is what it does in hand.
Mike
I never heard of anyone hating a coin because they took a bad picture of it before. LOL. I can't imagine the surprise of a buyer who buys a coin that that looks like that from a bad photo on eBay. If you sell it on ebay please use the bad photo and let me know that you are selling it.

Question is; did you really nail it. Does it look that way in hand? tia. jws
Edited to add: What does light reflection add or subtract? I'm trying to learn how to take a decent coin pic. Got a long way to go.
I can see how it was a challenge to capture.

<< <i>I like this one Mike. Although it is not original toning, it is a beauty. That is what a nice re-toned bust half looks like. I like the coin even more than I like its toning. When the surfaced are stripped on these old silver coins and allowed to retone slowly, this is the result- a nice toned bust half.
Nice coin. >>
For education purpose, would you post a picture of a bust half with "original toning", please ?
<< <i>I would LOVE to photograph that coin
The disturbing parallel to a supermodel is...well...disturbing.

Sure, but they are few and far between, even though these are pretty original- an argument could be made that these have been played with a little. 2 real good bust guys, stman and slumlord have both posted some TOTALLY original bust halves here- if they see your request maybe they can post a couple.
