They are neat to have. A date mistake is very cool, especially when it is outside the series. Have you tried to insert it into a 1921 spot in their registry to see what their database thinks it is? I would thin it is correct there. Their census report would have a red flag otherwise.
I haven't tried to see what it is in their registry. I also picked up some Peace Dollars hoping they are popular VAMs because they have obvious deformities.

Peace dollars can be a lot of fun in that there are some gret varieties that aren't in the focused Top-50 list. New folks often buy the first one they see with circular cracks not knowing they are exceedingly common though.
The extra blob of metal in between the branches on the reverse jumped out at me on this one. I don't know anything about Peace VAMs but I figured for a few extra dollars I could chance it and maybe it would turn out to be worth something.
I am pondering that "clash mark" too. Seems more like a die break to me if it's raised. Anyone else know about this or possibly a VAM? >>
No, it is a very common clash, even if it does look startling. It does not qualify, on its own, as a distinct VAM. It's whatever the variety was unclashed.
That's not a clashmark. It is cut deeper into the die than the actual design. Looks more like a die gouge. Now the one up at the top of the eagles left wing and running to the neck, that looks like it could be a clashmark.
I am torn on what to believe with the Peace. I know you Peace guys know your stuff but I think it is way too "blobby" and deep for a clash mark. A clash would be more shallow I would think.
Do any of you have a overlay of the obv/rev of a Peace dollar?
Chapter 13 (Discussion of Significant Varieties), page 421, lower right of 4th edition of the VAM book. (Similar area, different page in other editions.)
The Peace dollar obverse has some very deep details at the top of the head below the R, the back of the neck, just below the bun, and right of the last tall ray. These deep areas on the coin are very high on the die and can produce spectacular clashes. The rays on the reverse are relatively shallow, so they can be struck all the way through by these deep obverse elements.
