That's a good one, Amanda. Does it basically mean the same as "creeped out"?

Careful. This word has at least one VERY work-unfriendly connotation to it, connected to the bad old USENET days.

    Boring. image

squick v. to disturb, unsettle, make uneasy; to cause disgust or revulsion; to gross (someone) out; to freak (someone) out. Also noun, something which causes disgust, revulsion, or uneasiness, or the disgust, revulsion, or uneasiness itself. Also squick (someone) out.

p8nt - Maybe you could explain what the subtle meaning of my post is? I was jesting Sam about "brown - nosing" and when he commented, "Now I'm really embarassed." I replied that he had nothing to be embarassed about. No more, no less. Personally I think it is great he thinks of Amanda as a "mentor". I have read some of her post and she will go far in our hobby.

I worry that she spends too much time here when she should be studying for her MCATs....

My apologies then. I misunderstood your post. I was questioning if you were meaning what I thought you meant, but then the devil icon sealed the idea in my mind. My sincerest apologies if that's not what you meant.

No problem, I usually use the little red devil, especially when I try to get someone's "goat". But when Sam said he was embarassed, I fealt he was taking it to seriously so I dropped it.

So Amanda, tell us, how long have you been collecting, how did you get interested, etc. I take my 5 year old daughter to coin shows with me. She gets a kick out of State Quarters and junk-box IHC's image

Well, I collected SHQs since 1999, but everyone did back then.

I have been a Numismatist (actually learning about coins) for less than a year. image I got my First Red Book in November of 2005.

Amanda; let me 1st. state that I believe you are a leader of the future of this hobby. I hope you will stick with it as time permits. I feel confident you will be a leader in whatever you choose. Go Girl/Lady.
I will also take the liberty to boldly state that every yn. who posts on this board are our future leaders.
p8nt did not win Flethchers contest. Every yn. who entered that excellent contest was a winner in my book. I can't speak for Amanda, but my gut tells me she will agree.
It never ceases to amaze me how the yn's. keep us older men/women honest in a polite and extremely intelligent manner.
They have all taught me more than I can comprehend. They go out of the way to help and contribute. They ask and answer questions only Barndog and a few others could answer. Sorry Barndog, your no yn, just extremely knowledgable. We are blessed with a whole lot of talent on this board; the yn's I believe are teaching us something. jws

archaeologists...can that be considered like digging into the bottom of my wifes purse for loose change? I'm too new here to have read your wisdom Amanda...but it does look like you have backers.

  • For just a little bit there I was wondering if I knew Amanda personally! I normally think of the people here by their forum names and not their real ones. It just dawned on me that her name was Amanda, last name starts with M, young woman, knowlegable in numismatics, in college, studying archaeology. One of the members my the local coin club is Amanda, middle name starts with M, very knowledgable in numismatics, first or second year of college, studying archaeology.

Not the same person though, the Amanda I know has been seriously involved in numismatics for over five years. Still kind of odd to have so many similarities.

Pfffft!! Older women are hot, NL (I should know, I married one image ).

You might want to let things percolate for another 10-15 years, though (and not necessarily Amanda).

BTW, you're both fine additions to the Numismatic Family.image
