1904 o NGC Barber Half VF30 & bring cheese for the whine

eBay Bid Cancellation Notice - Item
Dear eBay Community Member,
The bid that you entered for the item (160021521779) has been cancelled. You can view the reason provided for the cancellation by selecting the (bid history) link from the individual item page.
Regards,
eBay
Here is the ebay listing-- in case you missed it-- a decent, but no "Tyler", coin:
1904 o NGC VF30
This is getting old. 3rd one now this year .(2 by this seller, 1 by another), & thanks to this forum, I never knew what was actually happening, behind the scenes. Talk about naive! You get pumped up for a good adrenalin rush/auction and then ---somebody offers under the table --and it's gone. Dave Finkelstein has done this before in previous listings of semi-key dates; pulled the listing the next day. Talk about a letdown!
His other current NGC halves are still up there if you want them. Go ahead, offer under the table.
For what it's worth I emailed djf with my concern, and also reported the activity to ebay as possible circumvention of fees, for that is what it is. We all know what happened, but it's unproveable, unless ebay can track the 'contact a member' emails, which I hope they can't. No one's going to turn themselves in for this type scenario, right?
It's easy to figure out when it's a PCGS coin, and the shows up in the Registry the day after the listing is cancelled. (See, the Registry is good for something!). But the NGC coin will be a bit harder to track-- impossible, without a picture in its new PCGS holder. If you went around the ebay rules, you better not post it in your Registry set. I know who you are.
For those of us with ebay as virtually their only source to have a serious chance at these coins, when someone breaks ebay rules, it causes one to whine and post silly rants on this forum (guilty).
I make an appeal to sellers: Why not just list as 'best offer' or 'buy it now' than give the illusion of a fair fight? That's what really hurts, the TEASE. To me no coin isn't worth breaking the rules.
OK, I feel better now, thanks for listening-- flame away, sympathize, or ignore and let this thread drop like a millstone. And I'll try to get a life outside Barber halves

Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.

Wow, that was a choice 04-0 !
That sucks alright. Unfortunately it’s a fairly common practice, especially with difficult material.
Either the guy...
(1) sold the coin at a show or some other venue, and the coin is truly “no longer available for sale”
(2) accepted a side offer via eBay email and completed the deal outside of eBay.
(3) pulled the coin, feeling he was not getting the action he needed.
I believe once I list a coin on eBay, it’s there to stay. I won’t sell outside the system once it’s listed. I feel it’s unfair to pull the rug out from underneath my bidders. Not good business practice to play games with customers.
Take care –
Dave
Once the coin is listed without a BIN or Best Offer the seller is at the whim of the buyers bids. If he lists a coin with no reserve, then I feel he is obligated to continue the sale. I believe that he had a caveat saying that if there were no bidders within 24 hours of the listing, then the lot could be pulled. { I rechecked the listing and there was no such caveat. }
I believe when I informed you of this lot, there was one other bidder, and you were the second bidder. { unlike you to bid so early on in an auction, wasn't it ? }. I'm sorry for the situation; I didn't realize he had done this to you before.
I'm still whining about loosing the 01-O PCGS VF 30 last night myself.

To bad the Ebay auction was cancelled. The 04-O looked like a very nice coin, and like the 01-O, it's a very tough date to come by in the VF/XF grades. I wouldn't bother with this seller in the future........stick with the reliable seller's.
Mike,
I seen you missed out on a sweet VF-35, 01-O. I still can't believe the prices that some of these midgrade, circulated, semi-key date Barber halves are bringing.

Glad I don't actively pursue the Barber Halves in choice circ shape - one, they're too pricey now, second, they're hard PERIOD to come by "nice", so with shenanigans like this, my nerves wouldn't like it.
Out the guy if you catch who did it - I hate things like that as well. If it's up for bid, it's up for bid - otherwise, put a BIN on it - I've bought stuff that way as well, am happy to do so if I simply "want it" at the price offered.
I did get the Auto Response from ebay, saying that I'll never know the outcome of this whole thing because of privacy policy or whatnot, but they may 1. Send an warning email to seller 2. Cancel the listing [d'uh?] 3. Suspend seller's account if has repeated offenses.
Yes, I'll just have to ignore this seller in the future no matter how much it might hurt psychologically. I even bet he would have done better $-wise if he 'd let the thing play out.

Friggin' dork.
I for one never worry about that. A good auction from an honest person willing to take paypal with great pictures will graner good interest on an accurately graded TPG coin.
Looking for Denmark 1874 20-Kroner. Please offer.
The seller gets less which is fair. This guy has has over 100 questionable FB's. Some of these are coins that were sold to others by mistake, etc.
