Nice freaking half for sure. Love it, grease streaks and all.
Family, kids, coins, sports (playing not watching), jet skiing, wakeboarding, Big Air....no one ever got hurt in the air....its the sudden stop that hurts. I hate Hurricane Sandy. I hate FEMA and i hate the blasted insurance companies.
You could see where there is still some good OLD dirt packed around some of the devices. Bet this one was really dirty and gnarly before someone cleaned her up a long time ago. And 1812 is a really good year for history.
It's a nice coin and looks to have some good luster left. That being said I agree completely with JRocco. I'd say the coin was dipped rather severely quite some time ago. Some crust survived the dip and can be seen in the crevices of the devices. I think the peripheral toning you see came after the dipping when it was placed in some sort of album.

You betcha Clad. This one might have even been washed with good old soap and water and nothing more than finger pressure, which is good because it didn't harline the coin like a wipe would have. You can see around the date for example and even in the birds mouth where this one was at one point in time. The coin is still a little too white, but will be a killer in a few more decades- if it is ever free from that plastic so nature can do its thing

Bingo! That's why I bought the coin (and over paid). I'm into historic dates and events and the coins that were minted at that time.
Looking for Denmark 1874 20-Kroner. Please offer.
