I'm sure you're correct. So, why did you post it here, knowing that?

You need to take a trip to Northern California. The worlds PEZ museum is in Burlingame. There are thousands of those little buggars in that place.

    SON OF A BEECH!

I was born and raised in Knoxville and had a season pass to the 1982 World's Fair (still got the pass). I have several items from the Fair but never picked up a Pez Dispensor.

Just remember, if there weren't people interested in trading PEZ dispensers, there wouldn't be an Ebay.

I find it interesting that there are many bidders above the $25000 level. It is not just two or three collectors fighting it out.

With Pez dispensers the analogy doesn't work. Unlike Beanie Babies, it's a collectible that has legs. There's been an active market for quite some time. It seems silly to us, but then we look silly to those who don't collect coins.

PEZ collecting is much like coin collecting. Out of the millions of PEZ/coins produced/minted only a fraction are truly desirable and saught after by enthusiasts.

Beanie collecting has the same characteristics too but on a lesser scale.
A quick check on eBay shows many BBs selling in the hundreds with some selling in the thousands. Not too shabby for a $6. toy. The Ty Beanie Baby market has certainly topped out- about four years ago- not to see anything like the highs bid back then, but Beanies like this Ty Rep #1 Bear are popular and some of the older (the original nine) that have been certified (to protect against counterfeits) continue to be bought and sold.

Comic collecting; card collecting; coin collecting; PEZ collecting and what have you do share common traits:

Crazy, whacky people chasing after objects of their passsion!

At least the high bidder, so far, if you look, their last purchase on e-bay was Bufflao Nickels! That has to say something!

  • Don't dis the Pez collectors. It was setting up a site for his wife that Pez collectors could use to buy and sell their Pez dispensers that eventually became eBay.
