Would you grade this Trade Dollar MS-63 or maybe higher?

I'm sending this coin to PCGS for grading. Please let me know what you guys think. I'll let you know how PCGS graded it when I get it back. Thank you all.

The coin looks like it might be cleaned or polished, at least from these images.

Welcome to the boards. Great place to learn here.

I hope it is just a poor photo, but the surfaces look funny. Also, is it the lighting or is the rim funky?

You might want to run it by a reputable dealer for evaluation. If you post what area you live in we can recommend some trustworthy people.

  • This coin belonged to my Mom who passed away 17 years ago. She stored it in a chest which I didn't open until now. This is how I found it, never cleaned or polished. It's an 1874-S Trade Dollar with no chopmarks. What do you guys think?
  • Sorry, the photos don't depict what it actually looks like. It actually is well struck with a nice luster.

The surfaces look odd to me to- like there's been some polishing done to it- hopefully it's just the photograph....

Going by that photo the coin looks polished, especially the obverse photo. It may just be the images, though.

Counterfeit, perhaps? Also, the rim does look strange....

first i am not positive if it genuine based on the image ,but lookin at the image provided it dose have a polish-cleaned look with a distracting scratch on the top obverse, my opinion is no holder - body bag. If you are fortunate to get it in a slab perhaps au50 or so. when it comes back I would send it to anacs to get a net grade if you intend to sell it.
  • OK! The lighting on this coin is not as bright as previously submitted. Let's hope it makes a difference. Does anyone else think it's polished, cleaned or possibly counterfeit? I know for sure that it's none of the above. If anyone knows a good dealer in Hawaii, please let me know. Thanks for your input.
