Gold Buffaloes Advice
I have 2 unopened boxes from the Mint of 3 coins each dated July 19th and I kept my receipt. It was pure accident I had not opened the box as we left on vacation the day I received them and I threw them in the safe deposit box. Should I send them into PCGS for their so called First Strike thing or should I sell them as is in the sealed box? If I sell them in the sealed box ( with my receipt so someone else can submit), what is a fair price to ask?

<< <i>You would of had to send them in to PCGS before July 28th to receive the "First Strike" designation. It looks like you missed the boat. >>
I did not know that. I thought the postmark on the sealed box and my receipt qualifies anytime, no?

The downside however is that I believe both PCGS and NGC will not return the original packaging. I send my 4 in prior to the deadline and was able to just send the coins with no packaging. I have sold two of them and people sure wanted the original packaging and COA as well.
So tough call. Speaking of call..just call PCGS to confirm. I know NGC will definately do it.

<< <i>My understanding is that as long as they are completely unopened and you have an invoice, you can still get the FS designation.

I just called PCGS and they still will accept an unopened box with receipt.

That doesn't surprise me (they do it for unopened boxes of SAEs from years ago). The real question is wether they will return the mint packaging and COAs.
Unless you have to have the money reight away I would wait a little while and keep an eye on the ending prices for first strikes and non-first strikes to see which is bringing more money. Then go with the appropriate option.
