I think it looks great! I'd certainly give the other services a try on that one!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

They blew it. The coin is no question NT from an album.

tuff call, almost has an original look, but the tanish circular area in the centeris questionable.

from the picture i get the feeling the rim toning was progressing nice and natural, and someone wanted to XLR8 the process. add the cooks current receipe and woh-lah

umm, you left out the blow torch, or your being sarcastic

I just noticed the date on that puppy. those results usually appear after the application of heat. had that been a war time (silver) they all tend to pickup the light blue rim tonning in danscos. but an 89, no, id never think it was natural

This is a tough one in terms of the color; it looks a lot like classic album toning. I'm just not sure an '89 would have this already.

Stick a proof in a Dansco in less than ideal conditions and they'll tone up very quickly just like this one. I've seen plenty of clad proof Kennedys from the same time frame. Not much difference in the metal composition.

I say NT -- looks original; likely toned in a non-airtight government package.

im sorry but I will stand by my comments, a dansco in bad conditions as stated would not produce a look like smoeone added eggs onions and vinegar.

it has a look that I personally would not want.

get rid of the brown and I would be all over it.

Doesn't matter...."if you think it's pretty and you like it" is all that matters. I learned that right here. Thanks CU!
Oh, I get the same enjoyment looking at a bag of colored marbles. They still sell those things?

I thought toning started on the rim and went inward. image

good question to ask yourself would be, where on that rim do I see tan/brown tonning

that was added after the fact, and its quite ugly- and killed an otherwise great jefferyimage

Here are a couple of proofs that have toned nicely from that era. These are definitely idealy toned to my taste! That deep cameo effect has got to shine through the toning. Again, these pics do not show the true quality of the eye appeal. Larger pics can be seen in my profile.

i like the colors and think they're what sometimes appear on the more recent Proof Jeffersons, but i think they're in the wrong order. i seem to find coins that have the devices toned like what Leo has shown or else there is tone that starts at the rim with the fields hazed. to tone like this coin, i'd think the brown area would need to be in contact with whatever caused the change. i'm no expert, of course, so i should probably check some coins in my boxes and see what i find. one thing i do know is that storing coins in those cardboard and mylar 2X2's that every dealer under the sun uses is a good way to cause toning, they aren't my top choice for stable long term storage.

Like this one and a few others. Had the same problem.

  • I have an '81 Jeff with similar blue toning around the rim, no gold though on mine. I like it.
