PCGS Club Membership Question

My club membership has come due and I have to renew. I see that they have redone everything and now they even charge for the silver( used to be free ) membership. Now you can't even send in coins unless your a paying member, boy they are getting cheap. Anyways, my question, you have the 3 different tiers of service (silver, gold, platinum) and the 3 different service charges ($49,$89,$189) that go with the service, but is there any other difference other than that. Why should I pay 49.99 and basically get the same thing for the $189 except for the 8 free vouchers which I'm really paying for anyways. Is the service charges different (lower) for the higher price services? or are they all the same? If I can same myself some money in the long run I will, but if spending the $50 or $150 dollars now will same me grading frees down the road, then I'd rather spend it now than later. It's also a shame that they took off the 2 years off the platimun plan, since that was the plan I always used to sigh up for. As you can see it's been a while for me....

Thanks for the help
Dave

  • I can't answer any of your questions for you or me. That's why I just got the Platinum and said screw it. Not much help for you.

I did what unclewiggly did. As a new member, I tried to figure out the same thing and then just opted for the Platinum as I had 8 coins I could send in. The book that came about grading and counterfeit coins is helpful for me as well.

PLatinum is the deal as long as you are going to submit coins. The thing to realize though is those 8 grading certificates are not free and don't waste them on coins that shouldn't be submitted. I know people who blow it there saying that those are the freebees.

Assuming you have eight that you want to submit, Platinum is the only way to go (unless you just stop submitting and spend that extra money on coins).

If you have eight coins that you would normally submit at the Regular tier, ($30 a crack), Platinum. If not, Silver. Gold level makes no sense at all.

Platinum membership is the best deal. Eight $30 submissions ($240) for the $199 membership fee, plus four quarterly pop reports (about $10 each fair value, or $40 total).

Platinum is the only level that pays for itself in what you get for the money. Silver and Gold both cost more than what you get, since there are no vouchers.

Also, the printed pop reports are a great tool if you are buying, selling, or even studying low-pop coins since they show a "snapshot" of what was graded and can be compared to current pops to see what has occured in a period of time.

Do they still have the quarterly free submissions?

and if so, is it for all levels?
