If you had a pricey coin to place on Ebay, would you wait a while because of the ANA show...?

...in terms of depleting cash from potential bidders? or is the market large enough where the ANA show and the recent auctions don't matter?

    If its a very highly sought after key or semi-key coin with strong demand; no I'd let it fly because with all the money in todays coin market potential buyers will find a way to raise the cash.

    Big shows have little if any impact on eBay realized prices.

    There were a couple of Washies on Teletrade Wednesday that I thought went real cheap. I figured a lot of collectors were distracted by Denver activities. I was out Wednesday and missed as well.

    If I had a very pricey coin for eBay I would email prospective buyers I know wanted to hear about the coin. If they wanted to bid I would list it. If they were busy or low on funds I would wait.

    Traditionally summer has been slower on eBay for me than the rest of the year. I'm saving my more pricey listings for a month or so...

    One of my best scores on ebay was on a PF66 OGH seated dime that should have sold for a lot more money than it did. The seller happened to pick a Long Beach show week to sell it. It was a wonderful looking coin and there was no reason that only I bid on it other than bad auction timing. Had it been during a non-show week I would have had to pay another 10-20% to own it and would have paid it. As it turned out, I sold the coin for a 30% profit.

    I've never seen any significant difference in realized values during shows. In fact, the auctions I have closing this weekend are stronger than I expected and August is going to be my best month ever.

    I guess that depends on how you define pricey. $1000? $2000? $3000? $4000? I've sold many in those ranges, including some I have listed right now.

    Thanks guys. I'll probably wait until after Labor Day. Besides ANA, there are vacations now, too.

    Since someone asked, I'm planning on selling a 1916 SLQ PCGS G-6 (it's only fair since I was the one who mentioned 1916 SLQs in the overpriced coin thread image ) and I'm thinking about also selling a beautiful 1918/7-S SLQ NGC AU53, but haven't quite decided about that one yet. I sold all my other SLQs a couple of years ago, but kept these last two coins.

    Good point, "pricey" is certainly relative. image

    Personally, I consider coins over $1k to be pricey. IIRC, I saw 3 in your 116 listings.

    The point I was trying to make is that your coins don't tend to be "pricey", and while I do not question your insight, I do suggest that you are not really that tuned into the "pricey" market (at least how I define it).

    I made that suggestion because of my and other's observations to the contrary.

    I do not sell coins on eBay, but I do quite a bit of buying.

    Selling a pricey coin in eBay in the summer during the week of ANA is a bad idea, IMHO. You are certainly allowed to disagree, and have. image

    How many of those observations are coming from people who sell every week on eBay and have been doing so for several years, through multiple shows? Your own criteria for "pricey" is over $1000. I've sold dozens of coins that meet that criteria, therefore your suggestion that "I'm not really that tuned into the "pricey" market" is clearly without merit.

    I have no problem with contrary opinions. I just happen to think that it's important that responses originate from people who actually have experience related to the question posed.

    All of the people posting on this board are home and looking for bargains on ebay...always keep in mind the audience when asking a question.

    Anybody out there think it would be ok for me to list by excess gold buffalo proofs for melt?

    No. As a whole, very few of the collectors accross the US are attending the show. Me included. I live in dreary old Indiana. I never get to go to any good shows.

    I dont think selling a 1916 Quarter in Good-6 on e-bay will be affected by the recent ANA show. However, It will need to be priced reasonable for other factors such as softening prices, and many available at any given time, not to mention the ones that just sold via ANA.
