I don't think those are OT at all. Very cool group. I like Humpty Dumpty particularly.

Great banks. As a kid I collected banks to put all of the coins I'd searched in. A couple of years ago my parents gave me 8 - 10 petty cash boxes filled with coins from those banks. The banks were in a seperate container. Now my young sons are enjoying the banks.

nice bank collection.....I too had a bank collection when I was young the best being a 1939 worlds fair bank.

    Thanks for the memories!
  • My grandparents had a few mechanical ones. It was great fun to see the cent get wisked away into the depths of the device. I wish I had them -- I don't know what happened to them.

Is your clown or elephant mechanical?
  • Most of them are mechanical. The clown with dog is called " trick dog". It is a cast iron bank from the 30-40's. At one time I was going to collect them. They are a lot like coins: condition is everthing, rare ones cost a fortune, and there are plenty of fakes.
  • Ohh. Nice. Is there one where the character picks up the coin and deposits it inside his head? That was my favourite bank from childhood.

What do you think, Mr. Bigglesworth?

Banks are cool, mechanical banks are ubber cool.
I had the pleasure of seeing a 5+ mill mechanical bank collection once---mostly large bronze mechanical banks. It was a sight I will never forget.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

The banks are neat but I like the case. Is it old?

  • Yes the display case is old. I got that from an antique dealer in rhode island several years ago. She had it between 1820-60. She told me how she came dated it but I can't remember. I think the metal is silver. It is not for sale...........unless someone has a coin..................................
