Let's step it up, huh? What do you think is the ugliest coin series ever minted?

saintgurusaintguru Posts: 7,728 ✭✭✭
It doesn't matter if people collect them. This is not a politically-correct or "love thy neighbor" thing.

It's just an opinion. We all KNOW there are some FUGLY coins out there! image

OK...I can't stand that "googly faced 19th century stuff". Who designed them? Charles Schultz?

Pretty much a tie between all the coins that feature real-life dead people instead of an allegorical representation of Liberty.

Definately SBA's. They are like Shar Pe dogs... so ugly that they are kind of cute...
But, let's not blame the designer on this one. Susan was not an... ahem... attractive subject to work with. No amount of creative license was going to fix that.

It depends. Would you consider modern commemoratives a series? If so, they win hands down. While there are a number of nice designs -- Statue of Lib. half dollar, Columbus $5, Community Service or POW $1, for instance -- the majority of them are ugly as butt. Narrow it down even more to, say, modern Olympic commems, and it would be very hard to do worse.

If we're insisting on circulating coinage, maybe ... the Roosevelt dime. Which is not to say I'd like a Reagan dime to take it's place!

any gold coin...makes no difference what the design it--it cannot overcome the intrinsic ugliness of the metal. Morgan dollars and Sacies, however, give gold a run for its money.

Liberty is all jacked up on the Morgan Dollar.

Ikes and SBA's are a embarrasment to US coinage,.....Ikes strikes suck ( the Rev could have had potential), and SBA are just POS from the start

I haven't seen too many Liberty Nickels that did much for me. SBA's & Ike's are too modern for me to pay much attention to. I kind of like the Ike reverse, but the obv. sure sucks all day long.

The first time I ever saw a Barber coin, I thought it was supposed to be Libertys' husband. Seriously, the only woman I've ever seen that came remotely close to looking like that was on the Florida State University Womens Rugby team. She played second row and went about 6'2" and 225 lbs....eeeeek!!!

I'm surprised someone hasn't already mentioned the Special Olympics commem silver dollar with Rose Kennedy. Whoever designed that coin didn't do her any favors.

Well, anything's collectible and I even collect the '96 through '98 quarters which
are contenders for ugliest US coin. I've collected Morgans in the past as well and
this coin has to be the hands down winner as ugliest US coin. Barbers aren't es-
    pecially attractive either.
