    The bidding looks funny, but the high bidder's history doesn't show any other business with this seller, so I would have to say no.

    NOPE! Just a typical bidding war between two bidders, neither of which have purchased from this seller before.

    Another explanation: Two bidders bid more than once on the coin. The under-bidder bought a coin from another seller and very well might be perfectly legitimate. The high bidder has been involved in other coin transactions with people other than the seller and might also be perfectly legitimate.

    I see, thanks. I have just never seen that sort of progression before.

    Also, kind of strange that the high bidder hasn't completed a transaction in 6 years.

    If it's shilling, it's not very well done. Nor is it a good way to win the coin at the lowest price possible. It never ceases to amaze me that people think it's a good idea to run the price up long before the bidding closes.

    I don't think it's a shill. More likely it's an eBay user who doesn't fully understand proxy bidding. He's just bidding to the next highest bid until he becomes the high bidder.

    It's interesting however, that he hasn't won an eBay auction in nearly 6 years!!!

    It looks like a US three cent piece rather than a British coin. So no, I would say it isn't a shilling. Shillings were bigger- more quarter-sized.
