ERROR ERROR! MY 10 year old daughter found this LINCOLN ERROR!!

saintgurusaintguru Posts: 7,727 ✭✭✭
She was just looking at change and came downstairs and was all excited...look at this!

I louped it and I must say it's definately an extremely misstruck coin with no letttering on the obverse periphery. It clearly has a rim (a wire rim in Saint-talk) and has not been tampereed with. Now I don't know if this a common error or something special? It's circulated...I have no idea what it would grade...EF??

I welcome all comments. If it's worth anything I'll sell it for her. Maybe she gets an ice cream cone and maybe she gets a year's tuition at college. image

Cool! Filled die, not particularly rare. Grade it "Wells Fargo 66."

Looks like a counting machine mechanical error to me probably done after the mint! I have lightened the coins two images and attached them. The reverse might be the wide AM variety though.

    A counting machine error? Nooooo.

Those pics make the coin look transparent. image

  • It is an upper AU piece. All the legends were filled with grease on the die so they don't show up on the planchet. That is a pretty extreme example of a filled die though.

  • Whats with the L and N on the reverse steps...this is more than a filled die!

It looks like the letters in IBERTY are doubled!!!! Are the L and N on the Reverse Steps incused?

    Wide A M....
  • This Lincoln was double struck. Evidence the reverse Montecello doubling and railroading on the rim. There might be more but I can't tell with the laptop lcd.

Give her $20 dollars and keep it. Give it back to her when she graduates. Maybe a collector will be born.
If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?
  • It's good to see that there is at least one keen-eyed collector at your house. image

If I only had a dollar for every VAM I have...err...nevermind...I do!! image
