    it looks like an attempt was made to smooth out the scuffy cheek maybe with fine sandpaper?

    The cheek looks like any other morgan cheek to me, but maybe you guys are on to something...... any other possibilities?

    Large S mint mark is entirely possible for this date. Looks like the cheek is artificially frosted to cover contact marks.

    Looks like thumbing where someone rubs their thumb (usually with some nose grease) over the cheek or jaw line to dull the shinney bag marks so they don't stand out as much against the frost background. This is not unusual with Morgans since the cheek is a grade sensitive area .

    Cartwheel luster looks interupted in the cheek and neck area...second "T" in States may have had something cleaned off of it???
