I'm pretty sure it is a rim cud. The metal is not pushed into that coin as it would be with a rim ding, but it is going upwards like it would do with a cud. Cool lamination on the reverse too.
I agree with the lamination; very neat. But I'm almost certain it's a rim ding. I've seen these sort of rim dings on circulated nickels before. Besides, the rest of the rims are really beat-up.
