Just figure you could buy the coin at the price list in the Redbook.

I might have to use some of the money to bribe Reece not to bid on it.
Seriously, name one.

I ignored the instructions and used my own estimate of market value. I would assume that Redbook is much lower than $50,000 for my coin, and my price is probably high (I needed a little extra to bribe Reece to stay away ).
As if you have to ask why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why? What Morgan lover wouldn't want to own the "King of Morgan Dollars"?
or
1915S PanPac either shape
I'm so conflicted!
I would get a 1848 CAL $2.5 Lib. I guess a strong XF would be about $50K. It's a coin that's always fascinated me. Arguably the first US commemorative issue... the CAL punch hand-stamped... California gold rush gold... wow.

<< <i>I think this would be a fine choice with 50k to spend on a coin. >>
Yes, Dizz.... AWESOME COLOR.
Someday you need to post a link to ALL your Color Commems.
Of course, someday I should take pictures of mine to show you in return... I need to get another camera - my old one doesn't have Macro and the Lenses I bought don't do so well...
<< <i>I bet you can't find one single coin of any type, variety or denomination that lists for $50,000 in the Redbook in a specific grade and that is actually buyable, today, for that amount.
Seriously, name one. >>
I may not disagree which is why I said just use Redbook prices. I could have said greysheet but wanted to be close to realistic.

It would fit my collection better than any other $50,000 coin.

<< <i>how about a 1885 trade dollar? guess the days of buying those for 50K are long gone! >>
Well, you didn't say which year Redbook.
A gem MS65 draped bust quarter comes right to mind.
Would consider a pop 1 finest known gem/choice Seated quarter or
half. Finding the coin is most of the battle. Some of these have yet to be discovered to the market. An MS67 1857-0, 1858-0, 1859-0
25c would be a nice score. An MS68 pre-1853 seated quarter of any date would also be a good candidate.

<< <i>IGWT, I was fortunate to see that coin in-hand, it's even cooler than the photos show.

<< <i>I would get an Octagonal $50 Pac-Pac commemorative... because I think it's the most stunning coin the U.S. has ever made and it's the #1 entry on my Dream List. (I want the octagonal because of the dolphins!) >>
I might compete against this guy, or I might look for a really great 1796 quarter.

<< <i>Oh, no question: a 1796 or 97 half in Fine. >>
It's the "stopper" for a type set, though the chain cent and the 1796 quarter are also in the running.
