New Purchase: 1892-O PCGS MS-64 Morgan Dollar -- How Do You Like Her ??

I purchased this pretty 1892-O PCGS MS-64 Morgan Dollar at auction tonight, and wanted to share it with my fellow forum members.
I was very impressed with the satiny fields, light cameo contrast, and the strong strike which is tough to find for this typically weakly struck issue.

I think that this is a strong upgrade for my MS-63, which is pictured below for reference. This coin has a HUGE price jump to MS-65, so I'm maxxed out with this MS-64 and very pleased with how it looks (based on the auction photos).

How do you like her??

You done "good" on that one......nice strike and beautiful luster....and the surfaces appear above average !!

Nice choice! The strike is quite good for that date as you point out. The eagle's breast feathers are fairly full, the right stars show only a little rounding. The ear is detailed and acceptable softness is over the ear. Obverse marks are consistent with high end coins of that grade. You done good. It's a real keeper.

I like it and agree. The fields are nice and satiny.

Also, the breast feathers have nice detail which is usually not the case for 92 - O's.

Normally clean 64+ specimens of this date are fairly common. But with this strike I think you did real well. The kind of coin that someday could flop into MS65 grade if they weaken a little bit more.
Very little downside. Stick it in an album for 15 years and you'll have your MS65!

A great example of Dave Bowers advcie that with careful selection, you can find MS64 coins
just as nice as typical or low end MS65s for a fraction of the price.

Thanks Herb!! I try to focus on Morgans with either DMPL/PL surfaces, or coins exhibiting exceptional cartwheel mint luster, with moderate to strong cameo contrast and strong strike.

I tend to be more forgiving of a few contact marks allowing me to pick up high end MS-64's at a fraction of the cost of MS-65's.
