At what price point would you quit submitting coins to PCGS?

For moderns, I think it has been reached already.

Economy submissions I think $20 would be too much for me.

Relayer; I've never had a coin graded. Do have a few that I'm thinking about.
I'm gonna use the value, originallity etc. of the coin to decide if it is worth the price/wait. My luck, the coins I treasure would BB.
I'm not planning on selling so really don't see any need to get my raw coins graded. The older I get though and thinking of what could happen should the wife attempt to sell ungraded coins does concern me. Bottom line; if I'm dead and the wife wants to sell and the $ figure justifies it.... the wife would probaby fare better with graded coins vs raw. jws

I'll continue to send inventory to TPGs as long as it's profitable, which I expect will be forever. As for the choice of TPG, I'll continue to send coins where I think I'll get the most bang for my buck. I can't imagine a realistic scenario in which I would completely shun PCGS.

As for my collection, I've never slabbed a thing and I probably never will. Why go to that expense when I'll never recoup the investment?

Wow. I agree with the Statue of Liberty. I think may be a good strategy when buying a deluxe new home computer or HD TV, but probably not in most other areas of human endeavour.

And I agree with Andy - it makes sense to do it if its profitable, or a good investment. I'd add that it may well increase the liquidity of your holdings in the event that someone, possibly not knowledgeable about things numismatic, needs to dispose of your holdings quickly.

For all practical purposes, they are already beyond that price point for most of what I would be interested in. Shipping charges are also a consideration.

When PCGS starts paying me to have them put into their slabs I will at least consider it. Probably won't do it, but I will think about it.

The only time I EVER submitted to PCGS was a couple of years ago when they had a deal in Coin World - Join Collectors Club (with 8 submissions) for $25. That price was the right one for me. Otherwise, no thanks.

I agree with andy, as long as the coin in question is marketably profitable, I will continue to submit for resell purposes.

I also choose the service that best fits that particular coin, it does vary because of cost and time. I prefer PCGS, and usually coins in thier holders will out perform others price realized, but not always enough to substantiate the extra cost and time associated with sending to them vs ANACS or NGC.

With the 10 coin minimum submission, shipping, grading fees, and after all that the agonizing wait - It's really ridiculous.

although I like PCGS and most upper level grading companies, I think certification for any coin is currently too expensive. Is my $30 worth the 7 seconds a grader spends evaluating my coin?

I quit already.

I am still ticked off that I sent them 5 really nice coins, all original 3 from Stacks sale and 2 from a well known Seated guru and the sent 3 back in body bags and 2 were ungraded 5 points each.

I wrote and called PCGS to ask for a better reason as to why and if I ever hear back I will let ya know.

I just got done in so I quit submitting. After my last 3 submission it has become more profitable to sell em raw. I'm really ticked off about a 42/3 jefferson that I cherry picked at an auction, possibley ef at best and it came home in a body bag for questionable color. Either I really suck at grading (which may be so) or PCGS is having other issues but for now I quit and am packing the rest of my would be submissions to ANACS.
