The Ebay scammers are getting VERY clever

BarryBarry Posts: 10,100 ✭✭✭
I check my email and see a question about one of my auctions ending tonite:

Q: Please confirm me if this is a same item with the item listed on http://www.rl-bayisapi.go.ro/item9722396491.html

I check My Messages on the My Ebay page and it's there too, so it did come via Ebay from a registered user. When I went to that link, to see what I expected was someone who stole my image, I see a spoofed Ebay sign-in page.

Nice try! I checked the userid from which the Question came, and it looks like a legit user with coin bids. Must be a hijacked acct.

I received what appeared to be a legit 2nd chance offer from a seller via the proper ebay chain. However, I had never bid on the item.......it was a 2005 Corvette! Needless to day I deleted the message. And it was a private bid auction so I couldn't even see how the bidding had gone.

Hey, I just got this question on one of my auctions:
Please confirm me if this is a same item with the item listed on http://www.rl-bayisapi.go.ro/item9722396491.html

It is a scam. I reported it, and the user, sbmanne. These guys are nonstop trying to rip us off. I answered the question, and pointed out that it was a scam in my answer. The user may have had his/her information stolen, and the theif is just logging in and asking questions, and the actual person whose ID it is may not even know that their ID is being used fraudulently. My item is a 01-o morgan ms66 pcgs listed here:

It's getting to the point where legit buyers and legit sellers are having a hard time finding each other because of all the scams!

Are any of these hijacked accounts bidding on your stuff??

Thanks for the heads-up. This one might have tripped me up.

Funny, I haven't gotten any eBay or PayPal phishing attempts in a while.

I just got that exact same one today for the first time. I went to the "My Ebay" page and found a message waiting for me there. I replied using the eBay system and haven't heard anything back yet.
