Seated and Barber coins, in general. are somewhat tepid at the moment.

Barber Halves in clean, high circulated grades, seem very active

Capped Bust coinage is very active.

Walking Liberty Halves and Franklin Halves are so so

    Morgan Dollars are so so

Standing Liberty Quarters, may be finally waking up

Red UNC Lincoln Cents seem to have gotten ahead of themselves

Classic Commems, quiver from time to time, but for the most part are tepid.

It's the first coin in the .9999 fine gold catagory, yes it is part of a series. The design may change but it is a series.

Certain segments of the seated market are white hot (early CC coinage, branch mint condition consensus pieces, very rare pieces like the 78-S half and 74-CC dime) and have been so for a couple years.

Ultra classics (1794 dollars, 1792 half dimes, 1802 half dimes, Libertas Americana medals) are wacko.

Original F-AU better date Barber coins (except for nickels), and no-problem Bust coins of any denomination (except for half cents).

Look at auctions, it's 18th c. type that has gone berserk, along with 19th c. proof gold. The prices in those categories have shot through the roof to stratospheric levels.

I am surprised that several members have selected seated liberty coins as hot . With the exception of $ and H$, and very rare dates, they have not kept up with other series for the Pop.

True for the most part. The key date seated stuff has been white-hot, but the commons haven't done much. Also, many of the slightly less key dates which are very difficult in higher grades are finally starting to have their scarcity recognized in those higher grades.

coins like the 49-52 O seated dime are scarce coin but people are first seeing this. AU 51O dimes are selling for over $1000 each. look up your price sheets on those.

Seated coinage as a rule is not hot. The scarce and rare dates are doing well as are very choice MS/PF type coins with nice eye appeal.
Average or so-so stuff (too heavily or mottled toning, dipped, washed out) even up to grades of 66/67 has been languishing for a few years. The nice stuff has generally been pulled off the market as the price guides are far too low for this kind of material.

Anything nice in Bust Coinage is in strong demand.

In my little corner of the US, Seated Liberty material is exactly like Barber. I can find plenty of low grade stuff (dimes, quarters and halves) but finding anything in no-problem VF or better is rare....XF-MS60 even moreso. If you do come across a nice specimen you should expect to pay strong money. As they say...ANYTHING is available...for a price!! The best Barber anything I've seen recently at the shop, was a dime in VF detail but heavily whizzed and/or cleaned. The best Barber Quarters and Halves are in the VG8 range with most being AG3-G6. Capped Bust Halves seem to be pretty hot as well. My local guy has one heavily cleaned F12 specimen...and that's been it for the last few months.

So what's HOT?? ...well without deferring to Paris Hilton, it seems to be anything in reasonable grade (strong VF to MS60) having NO PROBLEMS...Leo
