Baltimore Show Report - Saturday - quite the forum social event

It was a busy show as Baltimore often is. Very social as well (I'll put forum member names in bold).

Since his table is right by the entrance - I always say a quick hello to Julian. He is always friendly and happy even though I only browse. His show stock is a little out of my collecting range at present but wonderful to look at.

I had 2 coins to submit to ANACS and I met IdahoGal who helped me out there. Then over to NGC for a multi-holder submission. Unfortunately they couldn't figure out how to mix classic (already NGC holdered) and modern raw coins on the same form with requesting a multiholder. I guess it was too "outside the box" so I submitted the moderns and then I can submit them all later for a re-holder into the large multi-holder. Tootawl happened to be next to me submitting a multiholder as well, only his was all raw so not a problem - even though they wouldn't take coins in capsules (which I thought was lame). We'll see how they come back

. Then to PCGS for 3 coins that needed a "spot review" (i.e. turned in holder grade guarantee). They were very helpful so that was easy. I am curious to see how the milk-spotted ASE will be handled. Not to be forgotten, I stopped at ICG to say hi to forum celebrity Cameron and ran into RickMilauskas there as well. Cameron was cool to chat with and gave us a nice Colorado quarter sample slab.

Jade Rare coins has a table right by PCGS so I did some more browsing and said hi to Tassa. Then hit the floor with my small want list. I found a few nice coins for the Type set: an 1869 Shield nickel (XF or low AU) and an 1854-O (F) Seated Quarter. I was browsing one dealers stuff and saw the sign in his case that Barry mentioned in his report. "Prices are for Dealers only, all others pay 10% more." ... Whatever buddy. I moved on. And after a lot of looking at Classic Head large cents, I finally found one I liked with the help of Newsman. I got an 1812 (VG, S-289). It wasn't the sharpest thing I'd seen all day, but it has no corrosion where even most higher graded, and more expensive, ones did. I just liked the look so now it's mine. So Newsman and I made our way out to the forum lunch and ran into Laura from Legend. We said "Hi we are on the CU forum" which immediately seemed to get her hair raised (understandably), not knowing yet that neither of us have been Legend bashers. And they were busy packing up to leave. At least she mumbled "Hi" to us but her body language said "I'm busy" so that was quick. Maybe next time we can chat more.

As would I, but if miraculously this schmo had something I wanted, I would do my best dealer impersonation or have a dealer buy it for me. It is pretty clear this guy does not want retail traffic.

Here's pics of the type coins I picked up. They're middle of the road average "collector" grade material but they do go well in my 7070 (i.e. I like them).

Yeah, I'll second that. Actually I think the sign said. "Prices are for dealers. Public add 10%." I passed right by.

Great show. Didn't run into any of you I don't think. But I was in and out had to keep the wife entertained

it was a great show. it was my second baltimore show and it gets better every time. i have yet to meet any forum members that i have known are forum members. but i continue to meet nice dealers that i think post once in awhile around here. i am the guy with dreadlocks that walks around asking every dealer for gold dollars that they dont have. oh well i always get sidetracked a buy nice coins anyway.
