how does this rank a 65??

    I see nothing about the coin that would preclude a grade of MS65.

    That looks like an average (maybe the low side of average) MS65 to me. The marks are not deep and most appear to be rather small, just accentuated because of the frost.

    well if that is a solid 65 then this ought to be a 66, it's in a PCGS 65 holder (btw it's a cc - probably why it got 65 instead of 66)

    If all that chatter is on the coin it should not be a 65.

    More likely you're too tough on giant blemish magnifying images of Morgans - as is the case with most people.

    I appreciate different views than mine on this one, but I would not buy that coin, or one that looked like that, as a 65.
    No matter what plastic company says its a 65, I don't see a 65. That is why I grade my own coins.

    Here is an example of why I buy the coin and not the plastic- my eye does not see a 65 there. Of course I am basing this on a pic which can be deceiving in both directions.

    It looks like a common, nothing much, LOW END MS65-- Most of these common dates come with a much cleaner check.

    For $130-$140 I'd guess anyone can buy several slightly nicer examples at tomorrow's Baltimore show.

    The lustre and the imaging are amplifying the hits. It probably is not as bad in hand but is not PQ for the grade for sure. I wouldn't pay 65 money for it based on the images anyway. It is such a common coin that waiting for the nice one is a better plan.

    The coin looks like a solid 65 to me. The image makes the hits on the cheek look worse than they really are.

    I've seen e-bay photos of 63s that look about the same as that, but am learning (at some expense) that the photo does not always tell the full story. It could well be, as others have suggested, that those seemingly distracting hits on the cheek are minor luster scrapes horribly accentuated by harsh lighting. The coin could be pretty nice in hand with that strike and frosty luster.

    I would wait for a MS66 to come along. Only about $150.00 difference between the 65 and 66 grade for the 85-O

    I have taken photo's of coins that show marks that you cant see with the naked eye, and it makes the coin look pretty bad also when in fact the coin is beautiful in hand just the lighting seems to bring out and enhance every mark on the coin and makes them stick out like a sore thumb

    Looks like a close call, but possibly a good 65 considering how much of the chatter would be unnoticeable when the coin is normal size. The fields are fairly clean.
