    Nice coin Stuart....I like it!

    I have bought several times from ANR... have never had any problems... They are good at making the coins look better in the photos though. Always nice if you can inspect the coin in person first, or at least have someone else check it out for you.

    I had bids in on two Bust Halves:

    The 1812 in ANACS 63 and the 1818/7 in PCGS 63.... needless to say I got beat out on both image

    WindyCity: Thanks for your post about my new 1827 Bust Half. Since I did not attend tonight's ANR auction in person, and purchased the coin via internet bid, I do not know (first hand) how prices are going.

    Although on another ANR thread Laura posted that prices are strong and said that ANR is doing a great job on the auction.

    Beautiful coin with 63+ appeal!!

    I'm waiting for the first person that says, 'oh PCGS wouldn't make that a 58! (cough, cough)' or 'that would be a 53 at PCGS'

    Coin looks solid, I would be a bit wary of how lustrous it is. NGC is notorious for overgrading high end AU busties IMO. Price wasnt bad at all though. I think you did fine.

    crazy4coins, I was thinking of bidding on that same bustie, the 1818/7, so neat, gorgeous, but I swore to myself I would never put that kind of money into a bust half, then I swore to myself, ok, you can put that kind of money into a bust half but NO OVERDATES. I then became sure I was going to put a bid in on the coin. I hate playing games like that with myself. So I didn't bid, and now I'm thousands of dollars richer, so I can spend my money on something else. So I found this great seated half, oom pah pah nice. But I won't post it until I'm sure I'm the winner.

    This is an exceedingly common die marriage, easily the most plentiful of 1827, however, it is very hard to find nice looking or in high grade. Put 'nice looking' and 'high grade' together, and you have something special.

    As promised, here's an update to this thread. Yesterday, I received this beautiful 1827 NGC AU-58 Toned Capped Bust Half (O-104) Square 2 which I purchased at the recent ANR Lake Michigan & Springdale Auction. This was my first purchase from ANR and she's a beauty in person!! image

    BigAl: I agree with you that the blue & brown rim toning really gives this coin some unique character, when added to the pretty cartwheel effect resulting from the strong mint luster. image

    As someone who (to put it mildly) has looked at a LOT of 1827 halves I have only one thing to say about Brad's statement above.

    An interesting story about a 104 from a decade ago at Long Beach. Downey hates this DM for some reason, don't know why. But at that show, someone had set up an elongating machine with the show logo or somesuch. Henry Hilgard wanted one so he asked Sheridan for his most expendable bust half, which happened to be a 104 that he had taken in. Henry tries to force it through the machine, and the thing breaks apart into a number of pieces. Turns out that it was a brass counterfeit, Sheridan handled it like a plague coin and never examined it, and the force of the elongator broke it to pieces!
